I think the falling fatalities are probably a mixture of the better treatments, I imagine everyone is using the steroid drug found in the UK trial...but also it's due to so many of the new cases being in younger people.

Intu is a crazy comparison look how bad it's share price had been progressing since before covid. Ultimately people will always want to go to the cinema because there are some films people want to see on the big screen around others and not at home. However it is not the case that people will always want to shop in giant shopping centres which is why Intu has been sliding for years.

Seems like the experts have deemed cinemas to be safer to open than other leisure/cultural activites such as gyms/theatre so I think assuming US risk planners see it the same way as UK ones they will hopefully allow cinemas to open at the dates planned, just perhaps with more social distancing measures than initially would be the case in Eastern US/UK/rest of Europe.

It's only going to spike in places that haven't had a bad hit. UK, Eastern USA and lots of Europe have had their hit and a few weeks back had thousands of people out packed together screaming and chanting at protests all that's happened since is cases continue to go fall in these areas.
I would say there's no point following it the rest of this week, (unless you can afford to buy) and check in after the weekend. Would be crazy to sell at this time.

The more "sensibile" a country has been the more deaths it has postponed to the future and the more controls over it's people and it's borders it will have to apply (unless a vaccine comes in).
Countries which took the hit are likely to have enough immunity to not face problems in the future. This explains why cases continue to fall in countries despite having mass protests and riots weeks ago where people are crammed next to each other screaming and chanting.
We now know that antibodies fade quickly in those who were asymptmatic, this makes sense though. Those who are effected badly develop the strongest antibody response. Therefore the apparent reletively low numbers of antibodys found in the population does not mean that a large number will still be susceptible. This is why it would appear the virus goes through the same peak and decline cycle across the world no matter what policies the country has.

I agree Zoro the fear is overblown. Obv it's worse than flu but not that much worse. Good article by Sir David Spiegelhalter yesterday, basically saying if you were under 40 death by car accident was more likely and under 50s were more likely to die from "general accident or injury". This is including people with health conditions, for those without health conditions their risk is another third less than this. Also a crazy amount of people have no symptoms at all, often 70-95% of people in different findings. However the media seems to take this as worrying rather than comforting.

I'm invested in cineworld and think it has great potential from here but is anyone else paranoid a rights issue might be sprung on us at some point to pay off increased debt? This has happened with other covid impacted shares recently

Weird comment...this whole thing is too politicised. Only places in the world with spikes are places where it never took a hit before, New York numbers are reducing like UK. Places like NZ and South Korea which are always complimeted where it's never really hit are now going to have to endlessly apply tight controls and be extremely careful with their external borders until (hopefully) a vaccine is found.

Any chance of Cineworld UK bringing forward their opening to 4th July?

Hi Rougemale, what your're saying makes sense...still isn't bad though if it can double from here with around £3 the pre-covid price taking into account all the new shares and the dilutive effect on dividends per share. There are some other stocks impacted by covid that are at less than half their pre-covid values still however these have not yet had rights issues and therefore face higher debt which will have to eventually be paid or rights issues to pay it. Therefore I feel Hyve is a good bet if we were to be optimistic about covid.

I think the price could double from what it is now, however not back to where it was on the 15th Jan unfortunately because there has been dilution due to the rights issue of 9 shares for every 4 held since this time, therefore the equivalent 15th Jan price would be reduced by around 55% I suppose. However this would still be well over double what the share price is now.

I read a lot of the US new cases were amongst younger people who are at much lower risk of death which might also explain the falling deaths but we'll see.

True a reduction of only 2 today from 175 a week ago but in general its been a steady fall. On the 18th there was 144 deaths down from 196 a week before. On the 17th - 146 down from 210 the week before. On the 16th - 155 down from 216 the week before. On the 15th - 163 down from 222 the week before. On the 14th - 165 down from 230 the week before.
So zero deaths at one of this weekend updates is a possibility.

Interesting that in the UK deaths have been falling around 40-50 from the previous weeks death tally each day. Theoretically as there were only around 30 or so deaths reported last weekend when less tend to be reported it could be the case that this weekend will be the first to report no deaths in the UK. Obv that doesn't necc mean that much and only reflects the UK but as a big headline it could potenially influence share prices on monday with retail investors.

Because you "doubt most of us have had covid" it means "it's basically nonsense"? The fact that overall it appears to be shrinking across the world would indicate either many of us have had it or we are not suceptible to it. Yes there was a spike in cases in Sweden in the last few days, no would expect it be a perfect drop down, future small spikes will be the case across the world.
The average age of death from covid is the same as life expectancy itself. As someone under 60 with no existing conditions I have as much fear of it as death from drowning. In under 25's there has been 28 deaths out of 17 million people!

You don't have to be a conspiracy theorist to question how useful lockdowns are, there are lots of good scientists out there who disagree with them including Professor Gupta from Oxford university who basically believe most of us have already had covid but do no develop antibodies because most of us do not need them to develop them, this is supported by asymptomatic findings in prisons/cruise ships and coal mines often finding 70 - 95% of people testing positive have no symptoms.
You can't really make sweeping conclusions that Sweden shows staying open is bad, Belgium locked down and has the worst deaths per million in the world. Even Brazil which is constantly attacked by the BBC for not locking down has about 3/4 times less deaths per million than a lot of Europe and if you look at their 7 day average deaths they have peaked, Sweden's are also decreasing long term- nothing like the out of control deaths predicted by people like Neil Ferguson if countries didn't lock down.

Thanks but I mean for the people themselves who haven't exercised their rights or bought ex rights. Was just wondering if the flood of discounted shares added would make their share holdings automatically go down? But I'm guessing not, unless lots of people getting the discounted shares sold straight away. But obviously it's more of an issue of the future growth prospects not being quite the same on an earnings per share basis due to their being more shares.
