loan ranger, I've been thinking about that for a while, I was thinking that's why the returns on funds are so bad, because they have to do what looks good, and unfortunately some of the best plays look the worst. Like on that movie the big short, he predicted the credit crunch, made his fund like 400% (can't remember the figure), yet everyone, said he was an idiot, and people were going crazy trying to get him sacked etc.

Ultimately, no one knows, because there aren't any good examples to reference, but I feel like maybe 6 months, or when sanctions are lifted. They'll want to look like they did something, but I feel like they'll have to let it back eventually. It's a big business, and cannot just disappear unnoticed.

Might see the russian assets sold/split. I agree though, I'm feeling like 450 is about where it will sit for a while, at least until Putin has been booted. I'll cross that bridge when I get to it, might just hold it for dividend, and stick the divi into other shares.

If you could make a claim, which I doubt, because ultimately you bought shares, and you still have those shares, thus any claim of loss is highly dubious, however, if a court were to agree, I doubt they would award you much more than standard interest, which would be a pittance, and therefore a waste of time.
You cannot claim in court for money that you "could have" or "might have made".

RA held a position in government high up, so there's no way for him to pretend he isn't connected to Putin. Only thing he can do is change how he is perceived, being good guy, with ties, or bad corrupt oligarch.

Some interesting replies here, I am always open minded when it comes to world affairs, as there is always plenty of half truths, and outright lies by all countries involved.
I do feel this whole thing should have been sorted out long ago, but unfortunately neither the USA, or Russia seem very amicable IMO.
I feel like the Ukrainians are being used as cannon fodder by the west, and ultimately abused as the weaker party in all this. They seem to be holding their own quite well.
I wish we could all just have peace, but sadly world peace still seams a long way off. :(

I just had a thought, what if russia actually only wants the land bridge? Donbas, Lugansk, and crimea. I suspect maybe that was the plan all along, if they had said, we're taking these bits, it would have never been accepted, but now it's like, "we'll leave the rest of Ukraine, and "ONLY" take donbas, Lugansk, and crimea.". Seems to be like the classic concession move, whereby they make it look like you're getting a deal, when in reality, you're getting shafted.

Maybe this threat of extra sanctions is there to maintain the pressure. Might be why some have not been sanctioned yet, so that they still have more to sanction as a future threat.
As for Iraq etc, this is half the problem, the west has no moral high ground, and that is why many refuse to condemn the war, knowing that they might be next for "Regime Change". United by a common enemy.

Ok, from what I've seen, the Americans always seem to rally harder. I think they just have more volume, and they also love the drama.

Sorry for being a fool, but if it trades up on the NYSE, will there be parity across to the LSE, via arbitrage etc? Are they the same shares just traded on a different exchange?

I agree, russian steel will be like eggs from caged hens, people aren't a fan of battery farms, but they also don't want to pay more for eggs. It will also be easier to justify, than buying eggs from caged hens, because they'll say "it's in the past".

I'm reminded of what was said in the book, "What I learnt from loosing a million Dollars", he found that lots of successful investors had contradictory methods, he concluded that the method was less important, than how disciplined they were, and did not allow themselves to get carried away with their egos, and not chasing losses. It didn't so much matter what they did, but why they did it.

Half my reasoning for going in on mining is that resources like metals are always worth something, and there is always a buyer. Biggest hurdle is the banking side, india, and china will no doubt happily continue to buy metals from Russia.

TBH, I'm normally the first to criticize the conservatives, I consider myself left wing, but in this instance, it is a very loose link. His wife (so not him), and indian company (not russian), that does business in Russia (pretty standard for an Indian company). He can't tell his wife what to do, and he can't control an Indian company, or the Indian government.

My only concern with the Russians falling back to donbas, and the land bridge, is that the west might not deem that good enough, and maintain sanctions.

Maybe US might move it forward, get the new tech in early due to the war, and that everyone will be cheering them on, rather than in normal circumstances, moaning about the expense tk tax payers.
Really looking forward to see what comes out on Monday, been holding RR since the start of the pandemic, about time it took off.
