Bluelight there was some chat last week speculating about why the UK government have used the wording they have regarding required sensitivity and specificity rather than stating only PCR. They have effectively refused current LFT’s because none (that we know of) meet s&s, but maybe the door is being left open for improved LFT’s or LAMP tests.

The last bit made me laugh - Grant Schapps says that only one case in December was brought in from abroad..how the hell can they know that? That just means they know of one person that ended up getting a positive test once here?

My understanding Kaeren is that they need time to test the vaccine against new strains but all hope is not lost as even if they do prove resistant, the scientific community is confident that vaccines can be modified, as the flu vaccine regularly is. For me the question is what timeframe this can be achieved in, the risk is that we end up repeatedly chasing a moving target and every day spent doing that costs lives and the economy (costing more lives).

Re antibodies, all they can say at present is at least 5 months. Knowing if it lasts longer will simply take longer!

I posted about the curative article this morning...just to correct a statement made on this thread, the tests have been pulled almost everywhere, it seems to be a state by state decision (voluntary, as posted) and LA county is continuing to use them. LA is currently has the worst level of covid in the whole of the US, with 1 in 5 people tested showing as positive (presumably that is even with a proportion of false negatives!)

It will be interesting to see, post results, if it’s attractive enough for other ii’s to go through the gradual process of building up positions, I’d imagine most would prefer to participate in a placing to get a decent chunk at a fixed price. They also usually prefer a discount and this is also a problem for NCYT due to the dual listing, not that they would want to discount and dilute other holders right now where they have plenty of cash and upward trending SP...

From GM’s POV I suspect the fewer fund managers overseeing the business the better, possibly worth the hassle of collating votes etc for agm’s!

Acuere I agree with your view about turnover and broker notes. I just wonder why you think they should attract more institutional investors right now? I get that it would stabilise the SP, however I also think that a more solid view of likely future earnings would hopefully do the same. But they would have to issue stock to get serious amounts into institutional hands and if they have the cash we think they do, they don’t need to do this right now - maybe if they had a big acquisition target it would make sense?

Article in Sunday Times business section today about Curative tests, developed by an Oxford Uni ‘dropout’ - the US spent $65m on tests (oral swab only) which became the ‘go to’ for LA’s drive through testing sites. Similar to Innova they were meant for symptomatic individuals only and have since been shown to be inaccurate (high false negative rate) and withdrawn in most regions - LA being an exception...anyone seen the state of LA covid stats lately? I wonder if Matt H is reading this today...or if he might take any notice.

Not to mention they would then own the LAMP test recently approved by DHSC Butchers!

On ‘poorly performing test’ I think the key is that the Variplex test didn’t perform well unless in conjunction with PCR (based on my uneducated reading of the research paper). Once used with PCR it performed very well. The Q machines are PCR machines so would provide the combination...

‘Focus on optimising workflows’ and ‘ready to use reagents result in user friendliness, speed and reliability’ sounds very useful!

That mention is confusing because the company has said nothing about an antigen LFT in development, only an antibody one. That’s not to say it’s impossible and some, including Tay, have speculated that it might be happening, but looks more like the writer has confused the tests. Avacta’s is antigen.
