BP may send oil stocks down tomorrow, infact it might send the entire FTSE down

A 20% fall would be £3.03
A 25% fall would be £2.84
A 30% fall would be £2.65
A 35% fall would be £2.46
A 40% fall would be £2.27

I'm guessing we'll see about a 30-35% fall tomorrow morning, £2.45 to £2.65 followed perhaps by a decent bounce off the day's low (10-15% or so depending on how low it goes)

If there is a bounce, I think it'll be followed soon after by profit taking resulting in the share price falling again into close to maybe the mid to low £2's

Sub £2 could be seen in the days and weeks thereafter

All in my opinion.

This will certainly be in the £2's tomorrow, my guess is we'll see a 30% to 35% fall early doors, followed by a 10% or so recovery off the day's low. The outlook appears bleak for the foreseeable future with further falls possible as the days and weeks go on. I think many will sell tomorrow because there's no saying how much this is going to hurt the share price, only that it's likely to be a significant hit.

The key words being "many years to come"

After reading those words from David Potts, if Morrisons do allow them to go bust, it'd be a difficult one for him to explain I suppose?..

It's a bit of a gamble - it does seem there are reasons why Morrison's would want to either save McColls or buy them. Either scenario could be profitable, possibly very profitable, for those buying at this price. But then again, there's always the possibility shareholders would end up getting screwed over whatever happens. And if the company does go bust, you'd likely lose your investment.

I probably won't be taking a position here but I'll follow events out of interest and wish holders here all the best for a good outcome.

If Morrisons put in an offer is perhaps the only chance of seeing a meaningful rise now.. or they could just leave it to go bust and acquire the assets on the cheap from the administrators? Shareholders in that situation would likely get nothing..

For anyone looking to acquire McColls stores, why would they pay millions for the company when they could just leave it to go into administration and then buy the assets from the administrators at a knockdown price?

AimMaster, I have no holdings anywhere atm.I post out of interest, not because I'm invested. The fact I've had to post a few times on cpi is only because you've got a brain the size of a pea.

Inflation is at a 30 year high, and the war in Ukraine could send it even higher. Energy bills are soaring, oil and gas prices are soaring, petrol is going up, the cost of heating your home is going up, food prices are going up.. add to this thousands of businesses went bust during COVID-19 lockdowns and the associated job losses. It's not a pretty picture. Nights out at the cinema along with popcorn and drinks is a luxury many people can't afford right now. And for millions more, at best they might have a night out now and again but they too will be feeling the affects of rising inflation and forced to cut back and tighten the belt. The trouble with the leisure sector is it's not essential to people's lives - it's a nice to have rather than a need to have. When money is tight, it's the first to go when families are planning their budgets.

I have provided clear evidence R&M have (a) recently lost £927m, and (b) hold a large number of small cap stocks which they admit may be hard to sell. If they need the cash after losing such a substantial sum, it would appear they have little choice oher than to offload from holdings such as Capita which can be easily sold. Maybe they've reduced elsewhere too - that I don't know. What's clear is the company have taken a recent hit, a big one, £927m, and there's every possibility that's what's behind them having to reduce their holding. It was quite likely a reluctant decision on their part, but a decision they decided was necessary to take.

They primarily invest in small and micro caps which cannot always be easily be sold because they are illiquid due to low trading volumes. So if they do need to release cash quickly, they're going to have to turn to larger main market holdings that have much larger trading volumes and can be easily offloaded - such as Capita.

This from their recent trading statement :

"The Company invests in a diversified portfolio of UK micro cap companies, typically comprising companies with a free float market capitalisation of less than £100 million at the time of purchase. These securities are likely to have higher volatility and liquidity risk than securities on the Main Market of the London Stock Exchange or the Financial Conduct Authority's Official List. The relatively small market capitalisation of micro cap companies could therefore have an adverse effect on the performance of these investments and can make the market in their shares illiquid. On this basis prices of micro cap companies are often more volatile than prices of larger capitalisation stocks, and even small cap companies. Many businesses are facing additional financial challenges due to demand fluctuations, and/or additional cost of supplies currently, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It looks like R&M need the money, they just lost £927m (see post @6:14) I don't think they had any choice but to sell some of their holdings

They sound like a bunch of amateurs to me. I'm a big fan of Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger, and I'm pretty sure both would balk at this company's methods and philosophies.

There's actually no reason to get emotional by a few "trolls" posting negativity. Let's face it, it isn't going to affect the share price. It would take huge numbers of small shareholders selling all at the same time, or a major holder offloading, to have any meaningful affect. Small time posters on a bulletin board isn't going to affect the share price whatsoever. These boards are for posters to post their thoughts - both for and against. So they're not breaking any rules posting negative views if that's how they feel about the stock. Shorting is legal in the UK so again, no law saying they can't short or that they can't post their negative views supporting their short position. What's important is holders understand it's not going to affect the share price - so relax about it. Filter if it gets on your nerves. But understand this, small time negative posters are not the ones driving the price down - the sector is going through a bad time, ASOS, Ted, AO world - they're all down just the same. It's got nothing to do with small time shorters or negative posters.
