Couldn’t agree more Wids. Not only will governments be able to ensure every transaction is electronically visible to prevent tax evasion, but the state will know everything about you. People are naive if they think becoming a cashless society is a good thing.

The Telegraph has been fighting a campaign to stop the cashless society.

I like to ensure tips go to the staff I want them to go to. Are buskers and beggars going to have card machines from now on ? What will happen when card payment systems get hacked and are shut down for periods ? Older people prefer cash to credit and debit cards and online banking. I read recently that a lot of people were returning to cash as a means of budgeting in these difficult times. There are lots of reasons for keeping cash. I am opposed to its demise.

LTI is right. Rate rises can take upto 10 months before the effects are fully felt. We are going to have inflation for a good while yet whilst the BoE tightens its monetary policy.

These are comparatively low interest rates still. Ridiculous how Armageddon is being forecast when some of us remember paying mortgages at 15%.

The world has become addicted to and used to cheap money for far too long to the extent that they don't know any different. I thought lenders were supposed to stress test borrowers at higher interest rates. History does keep repeating itself sadly.

Several European governments, including Germany, have vowed to wean themselves off their crippling dependence on Russian gas. Many are rationing energy in case the Kremlin turns off the taps in retaliation for Western sanctions.

“Hungary’s energy supply is safe,” said Zoltan Kovacs, a cabinet minister and international spokesman for Viktor Orban, the Hungarian prime minister, after the deal with state-owned Gazprom was signed.

Can't say I'm surprised. The Russians will no doubt turn a blind eye when China invades Taiwan at some point as a thank you.

We will continue to import LNG from legitimate sources until we are self-sufficient in energy whilst the EU gets screwed by Russia and China.
