Granite, completely agree about incompetence amongst politicians. People often want to assign corruption or conspiracy to political decision making, when in fact gross incompetence is the main driving force within politics. History is very clear about this. Very few politicians actually understand what they control nor do they have ability to master the brief. Pretence, fire fighting and false bravado are the daily activities of politicians. Who knows, maybe there is a strong voice of intelligence, competence, experience and reason within the political group who will preside over the concession, but then maybe there isn’t.

The CAB has both volte-faced on a previous decision and also failed to follow the environmental code in doing so. At no point in this flawed process has the company received any feed-back relating to the work they have done to meet requirements of the concession. You can't have a system in which those who advise the government completely change their mind when the facts have not changed, where the legal codes are not followed and where companies spending large sums of money are not given detailed information about status of their application. As a shareholder your wager is that senior members of the government will be rational and so also take this view. You are hoping they will look at the comments made by BEM and say 'well everything they are saying is factually correct'. Of course they might not want a mine in that area for whatever political reasons and decline the concession, that is our worry. They have the power to do that and it is does not need a leap of the imagination to think a politician will reject reason and factual correctness for political convenience.
