Yes, but with 'gold standard' ELISA lab tests manufactured by ODX, followed soon after by the 'gold standard' POC test also manufactured by ODX!

No one is talking about flu. Covid is a new and different viral disease. Scientists are still to discover what the period of immunity might be after catching and recovering from Covid the first time - it could be a short period of time (months) or a long period of time (years, or even many years).

Latest reports from S Korea suggest that you will not get Covid again once you have antibodies in your system (at least for some time period, not yet known). Other science studies need to confirm this, but it is kind of good news for humankind as it means a vaccine (if found) will work for at least the same period of time. In the meantime both antigen and antibody testing will be required by the world population to beat down this disease.

While that is happening the ELISA lab based test would be the 'test of choice' for PHE antibody testing, plus ELISA lab test would be a cornerstone to support this wider validation of home based POC testing in the community. Just goes to show the lengths that the Gov will take to get this right, no room for error.

Iamrich, yes, scientists do not yet know how long immunity can last. In the meantime, Gov will likely err on the side of caution eg if they think it will last at least 9 months, then will ask you to be re-certified by a new antibody test every 6 months. This re-testing regularly will be done throughout the world until Covid is eliminated (perhaps never!)

Philsam, could be sooner than next Thursday. I don't think VE day will have any bearing on timing. The Gov want to discuss their unlock plans in the coming week and 'next step testing plans' is a hot topic right now, so could be as soon as Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday.

Mega, absolutely. Antibody tests are one of the essential tests to run an immune certificate system, either the ELISA lab based test, or the POC test. For the purpose of an immune certificate I think the POC test will likely need to be done at a Regional Test Center, or by your GP, or other authorised local medical centre. POC testing cannot simply be left to the individual to 'self mark' since there are a few who would want the chain unleashed and who could 'bypass' the system eg 'friends' that have had it, though they themselves have not.

20th April RNS stated that ELISA test was already submitted to PHE for formal approval. So this would suggest PHE have had the test for 2 weeks or more already. I doubt it would be submitted without a fair degree of confidence and already had been independently validated by 2 different labs. Also expect PHE will not dilly dally. Gov raring to go with unlock measures including antibody testing, so I expect the approval for ELISA lab antibody test is be imminent.

Fast, for your latter proposal I am wondering that if the Gov announces it on a daily briefing, then it becomes public knowledge and no RNS will be required. If only we had a crystal ball....

Fairly certain they have got designfrozen for Elisa antibody lab test, as it's already been informally validated, but with PHE for formal validation at the moment, so approval should be imminent. I expect the POC test will be 'frozen' very shortly.

Don't forget that you have the likes of Boots and others involved in Mobile testing sites, so I think there is more than one "consortium", formal or informal, and it will depend on who was scribbling on the flipchart. I do not believe ODX are manufacturing any antigen tests and these are being sourced from PrimerDesign, Randox and Roche.
