The final jigsaw piece is falling shortly....13 May 2020 16:59
The jigsaw pieces are hereβ¦.
- The need to understand the presence of COVID-19 in the community, needs widespread and reliable antibody testing as part of this to understand who has had the virus.
- Set up a Government backed consortium to develop and make the best possible antibody POC test to enable mass testing. Bringing together the best scientific and medical diagnostic brains in the UK.
- MHRA publish guidance on what a good quality POC antibody test must achieve. Throw any other rubbish antibody tests out of the window, will not get PHE approval. Quality must come first, hence the reason for RTC.
- Set up manufacturing capability to mass produce 1 million POC antibody tests/week, by 1st June. Yes, that's right - manufacture 1 million antibody tests per day.
- Omega already manufacturing CE marked antibody tests. These are lab based but are still a bonus for ODX with manufacturing up to 46000 ELISA test/day.
- UK Gov publish the framework and plans for βtrack and traceβ, to gather the data to understand the virus spread in the community. Has to include millions of POC antibody tests to know who in the community has had the virus. Hence at least 200,000 test per day target by end of May.
- βTrack and Traceβ trial in early May, roll-out to wider community by 1st June.
- Antibody testing trials in community in early May. Lab based initially but need POC for wider population.
- Gov need to get economy moving, as safely as possible as early as possible. Planned βUnlockβ phases start to pick up from 1st June.
- βTrack and Traceβ apps for monitoring and reporting POC testing results announced by RTC members.
- Just need that final piece βhere is the gold standard quality POC antibody testβ for community mass testing, for the UK and the rest of the world. The world is their oyster for those who can manufacture these POC tests (ODX and other consortium members. I believe, dropping very soon indeed.
The Gov want all these pieces slotted together by end of May to support their release of lockdown phases over the next few following months, starting June 1st. Put the pieces together and you can see the bigger picture forming right in front of you. I can't spell it out clearer than that.
