Transition period
For those tests already holding validation approval following a successful desktop review when the legislation comes into force in December, we are proposing a 2-month grace period. For example, if new legislation were to come in to force on 1 December 2021, tests that pass desktop validation would have until 28 February 2022 to pass their laboratory validation. During this grace period tests with a desktop approval would remain legal for sale until 28 February 2022.

This proposed second step of validation (laboratory validation) is intended to increase the scrutiny placed on test products and will likely remove further poorly performing tests from the market by identifying issues not recognised by the desktop review alone.

Proposal to introduce step 2 laboratory validation
The government proposes to make a second statutory instrument which will introduce mandatory laboratory validation, following desktop review for COVID-19 tests. We outline the government’s proposal below, including what laboratory validation would involve.

The new step of laboratory validation will add onto the existing desktop assessment and will be based on our experience to date of undertaking laboratory validation to inform use case and DHSC procurement decisions. This will mean when the legislation comes into force a coronavirus test device will need both a desktop validation approval and laboratory validation approval to access the UK market. At this point a test will need the following to enter the UK market:

a CE marking followed by
a validation approval following successfully passing desktop review followed by
a validation approval following successfully passing laboratory testing
Just as a CE marking is a prerequisite for entering desktop review, the desktop review approval will be necessary in order to apply for laboratory validation.

Regulations are increasing for the testing industry. This is great news for the best of the best. No more cowboys. Next years travel industry could be a nice earner. Assuming testing will be required.

No byp. Credit where credit s due. The vaccine rollout has been a success. Can't deny that and never have. Although I would question, why not throw an antibody test in there and make sure you are using these jabs in the most effective way. Believe it or not they are a scarcity in the world yet we have them coming out of our ears. Again, not a great response from a world leader.

As for LFT's. Great that they are free and available whenever you want them but then he goes and balls up by spending £3b on Chinese ones that are proven to be inaccurate. The reason the US can't get them is because they banned them. Another great idea poorly implemented.

Byp, government set the policies to manage Covid. There is a clear link so to say I am only interested in the politics is wrong. If it was labour that was creating a monster mess then I would have the same opinion. You must appreciate that the 'do as I say, not as I do' mantra does not wash well with us Brits.

Oh and those tests that may be a good idea to take will be the cheap lottery ticket tests from China. Not the quality ones from England.

A little snippet on covid passes.

From 15 December in England, the NHS Covid Pass - or proof of a negative test - will be needed for entry to any outdoor event where 10,000 people are present (such as large rugby matches).

The good news from your perspective is that this only applies to adults aged 18 and over, so your son will not be asked to show his Covid Pass, or to prove his status.

The latest government advice suggests that it might also be a good idea to take a lateral flow test before going to a large event "if it is expected there will be a period of high risk that day". So, it would probably be sensible for everyone who's going, to do this.

2 things from me.

1. Bad news, the gov appear to think that u18's can't catch and spread covid so let them mingle with everyone untested. We know that's not the case so good luck with your covid pass.

2. Despite knowing that you can still catch covid and more so Omicron even when your jabbed the government are only suggesting that it would be a good idea to test yourself before you leave. No requirement like there is for the unjabbed. Again, good luck mingling when you enter your covid pass only premises from Wednesday.

Abolish the covid pass. They make no sense and only aide the virus in spreading. #Test everyone

I would expect a negative outcome to cause an initial flood of sells causing the SP to drop possibly 30%. Mcap won't come into it. We've seen it before. People sell for fear it will drop more. Traders sell. Shorters open positions. If the news came today it would not shock me if we dropped into the £1's. However, after a few days it would settle and form a new support never to be seen again. II's would eventually buy in and with added news the SP would rerate accordingly.

A positive outcome and the SP rockets on open. 100% quite possible. There will be numerous pull backs along the way but nothing would stop the march to double figures. Either way, a resolution unshackles this SP.

Word is that SA has lots of antibodies both vaccine and natural. Omicron goes through undetected in most part. The only evidence I see is that 2 jabs is no longer enough. Even past infection. Great. Now it kills as well. Square 1. I hope not.
