Before the anti choice brigade come back at me with a 'its about not overwhelming the NHS'. Take a look at the number of nurses and doctors we have compared with similar sized populations such as Germany, France, Italy, Spain. I read an article recently that showed the likes of Germany to have twice if not thrice the amount we have. For years the NHS have been asking for a bigger budget and for years they have been denied it. The NHS is under resourced whilst the politicians fund lavish lifestyles and renovations from the same pot of money. We weren't prepared for Covid, that is the fault of the government yet people point the finger at the unvaxxed for overrunning it. We shouldn't be forced to give up our basic human rights because the government can't allocate a budget correctly.

But as always, the government says jump and the majority asks how high.

Very narrow vision you have there byp. You do realise freedom of choice decisions are made by everyone everyday. I'm pretty sure that is one of the reasons why the NHS exists. Smokers know the risks, drinkers know the risks. Next time you tuck into that juicy Mcds. These decisions all have potential health deteriorating consequences and should we be the unlucky ones then we have the NHS to help us out. It's called living our lives. I for one have certainly put more money into the NI pot than I have used so should I need to use it in the unlikely event that Covid knocks me for 6 then I can assure you I will be using it.

You play the card that your doing it for every one else as if your some Saint. Maybe you are but if you're such a saint maybe spare a thought for the millions of Africans, South Americans, Asians that are frail, towards the end of their life, if they're lucky they may have 10 years left. If Covid gets them that 10 years goes to 2 weeks. That's someone's mum, grandmother, father, brother. Let them have my vaccine. In my mind I don't need it, I don't want it. There is an unbelievably high chance that when I get it, I will be asymptomatic, maybe a few sniffles. Give the jab to someone who it will extend their life by 10-15 years or more. The UK and other rich nations are hoovering all the vaccines up and trying to coerce it's citizens to take a jab they don't want or need whilst the poorer nations don't get a look in. The covid pass is another great example of putting the vaccine before health. Applying restrictions to coerce people to reluctantly get the jab. Allowing unvaxxed people to mingle with Covid positive vaxxed people. Putting people's lives at risk just to coerce them to take a jab they don't want or need.

Like I said, a very narrow view. We're not safe until we're all safe.

It's not rubbish. It's this constant drive to stick needles into each and every one of us every 3 months that gets me. Focus on the vulnerable. Bring in proper covid measures that are designed to stop the spread. I'm sure the NHS will be able to mop up the few young fit healthy people that succumb to the virus. Think of all those hundreds of millions of vaccines we could save our money on and let WHO distribute them to other vulnerable people in Africa, or South America or Asia. I have a 0.0002% chance of succumbing to Covid yet Boris wants to stick me when there is an elderly frail mother, wife, sister in Africa somewhere that can't get a vaccine for love nor money. Sort it out.

Agreed Sonic, and touching on troubles false re-assurance comment. What covid passes do allow is for the untested vaxxed to mingle with the negatively tested unvaxxed. The outcome being that most in the club will catch or spread covid. We know that the Vaxxed are more protected than the unvaxxed when it comes to serious illness or death so the unvaxxed are particularly vulnerable in this situation.

On the one hand, the government spout, come and get your jab to protect yourself and others and then on the other hand they lead the lambs (unvaxxed and some vaxxed to be fair) straight to the slaughter (nightclub, cinema)

So let's put some numbers behind the argument. Let's assume the following have a chance of spreading covid at the below rates:

Unvaccinated 80% (Not everyone who is unvaxxed will have Covid)
Vaxxed 50% (likely to be closer to 80% for Omicron but let's go with Delta)
Negative tested unvaxxed 0%

With no restrictions on a nightclub you would get say 100 50% spreaders and 100 80% spreaders. Not great. Rough maths says 130 out of 200 have Covid (65%)

Let's introduce a covid pass. The vaxxed are fine but half of the unvaxxed now reluctantly go get the jab whilst the other half are fine with paying for a test. So now we have 150 50% spreaders and 50 0% spreaders. Now we have 75 out of 200 people that have Covid (37.5%). Ok so it's lower but are you ok walking into a night club or a cinema knowing there could be 37.5% of the people in there with Covid. In this situation, I would like to party with the unvaxxed not the vaxxed as many of those will undoubtedly have Covid. Unfortunately, I don't have that choice as I don't know who is vaxxed and who as actually tested negative so it is a huge risk particularly for the unvaxxed.

Now let's introduce a rule of 'you need to test negative regardless of your vaccine status. You now have 200 with 0% chance of spread.

Now throw in the Omicron variant and it's pretty clear that Covid passes arn't enough. Yet we'll be using them come Wednesday. Awesome.

Less of a risk you say, but still a risk nevertheless and how much less. 99 is less than 100 but still a big number. With Omicron the risk just increased dramatically as 2 jabs just isn't enough. The majority of the UK has 2 jabs or less so again how is a covid pass that is being introduced on Wednesday going to help stem the spread.

Works very well in the rest of Europe? Really, yes I'm sure it worked very well to coerce people to get the jab. That is the passes only objective. Did it work to stem the spread?

If I was Omicron I couldn't have planned my assault on the UK any better. Heading into winter, perfect as everyone will huddle together in doors. Christmas just a few weeks away. Awesome, families and friends all under one roof. My enemies have let down their guard, border testing removed, face masks removed, social distancing relaxed. Oh look, it's almost like they are inviting me in. My enemy is headed up by an absolute dimwit. Come on boys we can't lose. Charge!!

Yep, just read that too trouble. Omicron has been here 2 weeks. Over the next 2 weeks we will start to see the severity come through in the hospitalisation figures. Unfortunately deaths will feed through into the numbers around Xmas and New Year. Dribbles was laughing after about 2 days of Omicron saying it hadn't killed anyone so it's just a cold. You would have thought after almost 2 years of trend analysis he would have figured it out but I guess every village has one.

From 15 December you’ll need to show your NHS COVID Pass at nightclubs, some venues and large events to show you’re fully vaccinated, have had a negative test result in the last 48 hours, or you have an exemption.

I can't find a straight answer online so could anyone explain how these covid passes that are being introduced on Wednesday help to slow the spread of covid please.

I get the masks,
I get the border testing
I get the booster push (helps hospitals, not so much the spread)
I get the change back to self isolation for everyone.

Not fake news Woody. The people on the ground in SA are reporting an increase in hospitalisations. At the moment they are not progressing into an increase of patients in ICU beds. Still, it's early days and when was the last time you or anyone you know went to hospital with a cold.

It's a lot worse than a cold and hopefully much better than Delta but it spreads just as well if not better than the cold.

It sounds to me that if Delta was a two-handed swordsman then Omicron has lost a sword and gained a rocket up its arse. Not sure how that translates into 'this is over'

The ministry said 42 people infected with Omicron were “protected,” which it defines as those who received a booster shot, or who received their first two vaccine doses or recovered from COVID-19 in the past six months. The other 13 cases were listed as “unprotected.”

The ministry also said it was waiting on the test results of another 51 cases in which there was a “high suspicion” they were Omicron.

In a first, the Health Ministry announced someone was hospitalized in serious condition from Omicron — an unvaccinated man. The ministry said he was one of 40 people with Omicron experiencing COVID-19 symptoms. No details were given on the vaccination status of the other symptomatic cases.

So, someone in a serious condition with Omicron. I don't ever recall a cold putting anyone in hospital nevermind Inna serious condition.

Based on the current jab then you are talking 4-5 jabs per year. They really need to work on an actual vaccine and just give them to the vulnerable. We can't administer 30 billion vaccines every year. That is what is required if they insist on vaccinating everyone in the world. It's not going to happen. Let's focus on a plan that is actually achievable.

Let's also not forget that whilst the word on the street at the moment is 70% protection. Real world is always several % behind so 60-65%. What is it after month 2, 50%?

Just running some numbers. A booster jab tops up your protection to 70% if your first 2 jabs were AZ which most in UK were.

Apparently after 3 months your antibody levels are so low that you need another booster. Excluding under 12's there are approx 55m people in UK who will need a booster every 3 months.

3 months = 90 days
55m / 90 days = 610k vaccines administered per day every day for the foreseeable.

Yesterday we administered about 460k. This is going to need one hell of a sustained effort to deliver this vaccine project

Traders may be worried but not lth's. Following the ODX RNS yesterday I am now very happy that a dispute will be favourable for ncyt. Given we have already applied prudence to the annual accounts then the upside will be huge imo. Just have to wait now. Lots of good news to come as a bonus

Vaccine passports that allow vaccinated people access to a group of other people WITHOUT the requirement of a NEGATIVE test are absurd and one of the reasons why Omicron will continue to spread unchecked.

The irony is, we actually have them in our warchest to fight Omicron. Oh please
