Omicron has a deletion at position 69/70 of the spike protein which allows it to be tracked through S gene target failure (SGTF) in some PCR tests. Currently, approximately half of all tests conducted in the UK are able to detect SGTF. SGTF is not a 100% accurate test for Omicron and results are regularly evaluated against sequencing to ensure they are interpreted correctly. However, increases in SGTF can give a useful early indication of variant spread.

Mmmm interesting. Half of all tests can detect the s gene drop out. We know ours can't because ours are too good.

Pre departure testing should never have been removed. It can be LFT or PCR. Testing just increased again. Gov seem worried. Willing to send the travel industry into disarray again. They wouldn't do that for little reason. I do really hope Omicron is just more transmissible and nothing else.

Yes B2, a few weeks before the announcement of the NHS framework that we were included in along with only 3 other companies. The article shows how it n demand and pivotal this SNPsig assays are. I am not aware of an assay that can distinguish Omicron other than sequencing and the flawed Thermofisher test. SNPsig RNS next week? I hope so

It took Delta 3 weeks to get to 3000 cases. Let's see where Omicron gets to. Most tests in the UK right now can't distinguish between variants so who is to say Omicron isn't already spreading like wild fire. Quick DA, get the SNPsig for Omicron out and get it straight into the NHS framework. They will be crying out for it.

29th April - Delta designated VUI
7th May - Delta reclassified as VOC
23rd April - NCYT RNS that they will have a SNPsig assay for Delta week commencing 26th

So GM was all over Delta, had a assay developed before it even became a VUI in the UK. The SNPsig assays don't appear to take long to develop so expect a RNS next week stating we have one for Omicron.
