Mabs don't work in hospitals and of course steroids would do a lot of harm in suppressing the immune response early in the infection.

It definitely works in the outpatient setting - and I agree with you - and did say in my post - that it becomes a live possiblity again if the rest of the options fail or the next VoC is more deadly. Even now an outpatient trial could be designed to show how well it works, using the data from our trials to target it properly - but my point is that this Canadian platform , on face value at least, is not it.
Surely we know our future is in hospitals, where we could be saving many lives now and where the cost effective issue is not an issue. You could give SNG to every Covid admission and it would be cost effective - even without applying the profiling we've learned from Sprinter. Give it before Dexa to everyone.

It really doesn't fit. Even if somehow they decided SNG might be a candidate they'd spend their whole budget on one drug - because they'd need to recruit a huge sample size to prove any kind of efficacy. Our own P2 Home trial was statistically insignicant in a world before vaccines. It was not "highly effective" except against subgroups that this Canadian trial is not attempting to reach. A2 passed but with better patient profiling, and the same conditions that told NIH to pause the A2 - P3 still prevail.
In December 2020 this trial might have provided an opportunity alongside A2 but in December 22 there is no chance of SNG being considered here.
SNG becomes an outpatient possibility when one of the BA variants sweeps away all known therapeutics or a new VoC emerges. Only when everything else has failed - including vax and pre- infection protection will an outpatient trial for SNG become a possibility again.
Of course it that happens it'll be too late for new trials and they might just authorise the drug - but it's a doomsday scenario that I'd rather not consider.

It's a chance for Canada to practise running a platform trial "This study will also build experience within Canada with conducting APTs, something that is currently lacking." and if it does ever start recruitment it will be the usual candidates.

Wouldn't be right for SNG. We know what our profile is for outpatients and inpatients and we need older and at risk patients only. At $7.5m US and with the ambition to recruit 12k patients this will be pills only. Seems like it's 2 years too late and hugely underpowered in terms of finance and with just 6 sites

I'd like much more to explore the timeline of RM's responses since the Deep dive too. He certainly gave a long interview with Proactive in which he wrote off Covid almost entirely - not mentioning Sprinter at all and setting the " back to our roots " narrative that dominated for a while as positive COPD news was released. But I think there was another change, post this period and need to dig at it a little to work out why they've gone back to Covid and if there was an event that triggered the change. Maybe Rick Bright has something to do with it. I dunno but it bears a little digging or theorising if anyone else has opinions.
Maybe the dashing of LC and COPD trialing hopes forced a return to the hard won evidence RM was so casually throwing away in that Proactive interview. Maybe the utter indifference of the market to the 3 sets of good news woke them up to the reality of the current situation. They said " Hey - we have brilliant post hoc for the most at-risk Covid patients in hospitals. We help LC and wow - our COPD stuff was ggreat too !!!" And the market looked at it all - sighed - and drop a few more percent. They must be frustrated with this - I mean mad as f.uck that nobody thinks anything of it - but to their credit they've been on manouevres, trying to tell the storry to people who should be able to tie it all together.

The most obvious interpretation is that Synairgen now realises it cannot afford a trial of the size needed to get SNG successfully authorised. And it also knows that the other route to a company trial is a cash raise that at this Mcap will not be supported sufficiently.
Whether it also suggests there's something in the pipleline is unknowable - particularly as there are often little changes in the wording and we can't tell if they're deliberate and intended to send a new signal - or just someone else sitting down at the keyboard and not quite cutting and pasting as accurately as they might.
