My 86 and 88 yr old parents tested positive for Covid last week - and yesterday, 10 days after symptoms began my mum's test was clear. My dad still has a vague red line today but he's feeling good and was never particularly unwell. My mother is the older of the two , and on the day when I tested them, she really was rather poorly. She's had a difficult 18 months - spending most of last year battling stage 4 NHL and then after an amazing all clear in Jan of this year, facing a long and painful delay for an op on a shattered hip. In the early summer dad fell over and broke his hip too, so it's been a difficult time for them both.

The point of my post though is that my investment in Synairgen may have helped to save my mum's life. If I wasn't still reading everything posted on here and hadn't followed the pandemic and therapeutics in particular so closely, (long after my pals have stopped thinking about it) I wouldn't have been able to explain to my parents about a possible treatment that mum might qualify for. That treatment was Paxlovid and despite the concerns of some on here and in the darkest corners of the internet I trusted the EUAs. It look many phone calls and a very careful scrutiny of her existing medications before a 119 Dr was able to say yes and the tablets were couriered to their door within 8 hours.
Five days later she was clear (we didn't test before as it was painful for her to do the swabs)

She might have got though on her own of course - she was a girl in wartime Liverpool and she's tough as old boots mentally, but she was not in the best place physically when Covid finally knocked on the door and her immune system probably needed some help. If SNG had been available I'd have been pushing for that - but Paxlovid it was - and I read very carefully everything negative about it before suggesting it to them and starting the phone calls. Trusting a specialist clinician to decide if it was right for her.
A happy ending for our family and for this Synairgen has my thanks. I may have lost (on paper anyway - and temporarily I'm certain ) a great deal - but I may have also gained everything.

Bizarre how bad the data is from a targeted population in SG016 (Home) compared to the much less specific inclusion criteria for A2. ( 18+ and when we started the sickest patients were all directed to the Mabs that began at the same time. )
Maybe the Aerogen is that much more efficient than the i-neb, which was used for the Home trial

You're not in a position to consider the quality of my contributions to this board BG. The majority are positive - and occasionally I take a more negative view of our position and of the company's leadership. I do always take issue with those who promise imminent news and imply access to a different level of knowledge, which they are "sadly" unable to share. You are not a better researcher than out own board's sleuths - and your JP Morgan suggestion unravelled within minutes. Perhaps you've been nominated as the new Oakleaf to ferry enticing bits of speculation from the other place.

Your "really serious people " are the same people who pumped this to death before Sprinter - and despite the attacks on this board by some pretty horrible individuals - we do manage to have a proper debate when there is substance. ( I beleive my lengthy reporting of one such individual when he crossed an obscene line last week led to his removal from the board for a short while at least )
If you can't share any more than what you've given us -just leave us to it. Our boys and girls will unpick it. Maybe come back in late Jan to claim your share of the victory.

Thanks Bily - it's an amazing read. He discusses the caveats that accompanied our P2 data and then fails to mention Sprinter at all, which is odd for such a comprehensive listing.
Worth a glance just for his scathing review of Remdesevir and for many incredible and simplified plain English explanations of the disease that follow the listing, and his analysis of the political and medical failures of the US establishment - particularly strong on the way the Govt funds large trials of new drugs and then hands over complete control to Big Pharma.
Sad confirmation that our smell/taste data is not much use in Omicron - where it's only present in 6% of cases - against 42% in our P3 patients, but when you look at an anaylis on this scale you see that.

It's a long read but worth the time and if you are not a scientist the last 4 or 4 pages will at least make sense.

Both commenters are Florida drs. Supporting what we've known for a long time that Docs and ICU have been shooting whatever dose they fancied - particularly when Dexa was first EUAd. "He's a big lad - give him 20 - Oh jeez he's getting worse, !! Give him another 20 "

Pretty despicable trial if you ask me. We all know thatb placebo and SoC patients die in clinical trials but the parameters of this ptrial are way beyond what any prior evidence should have allowed.

Standard of care is 6mg for patients on Oxygen, once daily for up to 10 days - that's what delivered the 30% reduction in deaths in the first Recovery trial in 2020 and led to global authorisation at this dosage.

This trial dosed with TWENTY mg for 5 days and then TEN mg for 5 more days. Obscene increases that led to the death of 46 patients in the trial group (which was about 7-8% larger than the SOC group
"Overall, 121 of 659 patients allocated to higher dose corticosteroids versus 75 of 613 patients allocated to usual care died within 28 days "

It follows on the heels of a failed ventilator study in Brazil and a huge observational study of 15k hospitalised patients using the Department of Veteran Affairs’ database - which showed that patients who received just 6mg without supplemental oxygen or with low-flow nasal cannula oxygen had a 60% higher risk of death.

Lucky boy - I'm in West London and very lucky to have the river and parks on my doorstep. Brass monkeys here but only a sprinkling of snow so far. Very pretty though if you can bear to go out.

Where were you ?

Sept 2020 the contract signed with Clinigen to deliver the MAP across Europe - allowing clinicians to give SNG to hosapitalised patients. As far as we know nothing ever came of it and nobody ever received the drug. Whether it failed at some further regulatory point or there was just no interest at all is a mystery. The latter would seem unlikely - particularly when the worst period of the pandemic was still to come.

Aurelien Mary's trial is also a mystery. Meant to launch at 7 sites but only underway at Amiens Hosp. There was a flutter of excitement last year when a French Minister hinted they were about to authorise an inhaled therapeutic - and many thought MA had jumped ahead of us and those dastardly Frogs might authorise his formula based on hardly any data just to dish the Brits. But nothing came of this either. Suspect its been adandoned as they've had 2 and a half years to find 149 patients - and they haven't opened up the rest of the sites.
