That distinction between state and private pensions isn't strictly true, if everyone stopped buying legal and general products today,those like myself who have an LG pension who soon find our payments stopped, all pension funds are paying today's pensions out of today's customer, same as the state pension. I still don't understand why one is considered an hand out,or a benefit and the other isn't. Snobbery?

I paid for my state pension and my small private pensions, if I paid for them both why is only one talked of as a benefit? If you add to your state pension all the things you don't need to do ie pay a mortgage, raise a family, save for old age. You can see your not so badly off,how much more would you need to earn and I mean earn each month just to cover those?

My private pension is well below the £80 a week I apparently would be getting if I didn't have it,there's incentive for you, why did I bother,I'm pay tax others are being given my taxes to top up their pension.

I don't consider pensions as a benefit, it's something I worked and paid , benefit scroungers are a curse on this country, but different to pensioner's. I just consider the average person who prepared reasonably well for retirement, doesn't have to make choices between heating and eating, go in any pub any lunchtime any day of the year and it will be full of your average pensioner doing both. Which is great, but don't spread a false narrative, because of a minority, who where either unlucky, or lived entirely for now without preparing, or where just the first of the scroungers with hard look stories. I know lots of retired people, most very average, they enjoyed life,but prepared for retirement, why should those who spent instead of saving enjoy retirement as much?

I am a pensioner, have been for 7yrs, by any measure at the lower end of the income level .I mix with lots of pensioner's lots of the time. Most of us are well, better ofs than when we and mortgages and families to raise. Some are always worse of than others, but anyone with a modest income and a modest amount of common sense shouldn't be hard up as a pensioner. If people choose to have tattoos and expensive holidays instead of putting a little aside. I don't feel sorry for them, eat cake and wrap up.,in every sense of the word.

You know if the overnight news is that the USA, have started bombing again (especially after talk of an imminent peace deal) there is likely to be a negative reaction across all markets, and that's what as happened, its not difficult to observe or predict.

Those making a drama out of nothing, are those posting on a daily basis about these making £4, those saying we are governed by world events are being pragmatic, not dramatic.

Outside of major takeover news this share like the Ftse in general isn't governed by all the formulas and ratio's you here about on here, it doesn't matter if its rpm is 78, 45, or 33 1/3 ,what matters is what is happening in the unstable world. If peace breaks out in Ukraine and Iran, easy £3, if not without takeover news this won't make £3 this year let alone 4.

Probably also quite a lot like me(maybe a majority in numbers if not in wealth) who have finished buying and just want what they have bought to become worth more,not less.

Yet another afternoon rally, 10 days or so ago this always went down in the afternoon, now it always goes up,I understand buy backs, rumours etc move the price direction, but I fail to see how it effects the timings. These afternoon rallies are observable and consistent, and the opposite of what was happening recently, why is this? I think it might well coinside with market sentiment across the pond.

Some may remember a week or so ago I posted( THESE ALWAYS GO DOWN IN THE AFTERNOON) which I always put down, without any evidence, to the American markets opening and having a negative effect. Things have changed recently and these are now going up in the afternoon. I know it's a big assumption, but if it is the influence of the American markets, are they going up because they know something we don't??

Not your fault Mike,and I'm not having a go,but what awful picture your post paints, lots of profits for some and no worthwhile occupation or income for others. No wonder societies are stuffed and there is so much chaos.

Can someone give me 3 good reasons we are even discussing any brokers guesses? They are never right, never the same, never of any use whatsoever, they are just jobs for the boys wasters paid for by us to produce nothing of us,why take any notice. I'm seeing my toddler grandkids this weekend, at least some of the things they say will happen will come true.

I value anyone who as an opinion of their own, just don't understand why they listen to overpaid guessers, when have they ever been of any use to anyone here,or even vaguely more accurate than anyone here?

Why does anyone anywhere give a flying hook what these brokers say? At the very best they are a give enough monkeys enough typewriters and enough time and one of them will come up with something worthwhile case,but basically they are overpaid guessers who rarely come up with anything of value for anyone ever. I value the bloke who fixes my car or boiler, they know what they're doing and have a purpose. Here we are after all the crap heading back to where we started.

I'm sorry but what you say proves my point. My daughter also rents a property below market rates and there you have the question. If my daughter and yourselves can make a nice income and give a good deal below market rates, why is the market rate so high? Greedy corporations not happy to make a decent profit that's why.

Unfortunately birdsong you pretty much are right and it scares me to death, however adding unchecked greed to the situation doesn't help, so she us right to try and check it, absolutely right. Unfortunately knocking the chancellor even when she is right is a very popular pastime these days. However I agree she is making it far to easy not to work. Im retired, live in a bog standard small, decent English Town and every I see laziness and benefit dependency.

Sorry but no. You allow greed to go unchecked it provides more greed, not more homes. I briefly worked for a Liverpool based housing association They hide behind the banner of non profit making charitable trust. Its true they can't make a profit, but boy can they over pay themselves and there families with the money they make, there was nothing trustworthy about them and nothing charitable either. They know any increase in social housing costs will be meet by the taxpayer, so have incentive to keep costs reasonable Any chancellor ( that's all the past ones) who doesn't try and address this injustice and waste of taxpayers money isn't doing their job properly.
