Much as I would encourage anybody to buy vod shares, I'm always baffled by the logic behind buying just before ex divi, you do realise that if you buy after, you are likely to get them 9p cheaper, & you don't have to wait 2 months for the divi. Of course I hope I'm wrong, & vod shares fall by less than 9p 1st thing after going ex divi.

If you are sure the sp will be mid 180's (185) ? on Friday, then you should short them at the current price of 198. Take off the 9p divi & you still have a 4p profit. But I think on Friday the sp will be at least 189 & probably more. , but who knows. Great finish today though.

Shorting before ex divi is no different than any other time. If you short vod & it declares a 9p divi & the sp falls by 9p on ex divi, apart from the costs involved in c f d' s. or spread betting you will break even. To make money the sp needs to fall by more than the divi. Its easy to short at any time if you have an account, i g index for example,but you have put up a large margin if you do cfd's. Spread betting may be cheaper.

I agree, but just wondered what your opinion is on vod, I think the sp is under priced, but I am biased, as I hold a lot of shares. �2 plus seems fair value to me?
