RE: JORC31 Aug 2020 15:28
LB That Yorkshire potash project sounds like serious bad news. I've made some blinding bad investment decisions in my time... maybe one or two now as well but 'that's life' as old Blue Eyes would say, you win some and you lose some. I have a few irons in the fire right now... all apparently awaiting news, RNSs, JORCs etc... I also have the current issue of a 'Discretionary Managed' pension by a fairly well known investment team, however, their idea of managing and mine appear to be somewhat different. For a start the lump sum although spread over a number of investment areas are just under 40% in UK equity funds and just over 25% US whilst the remainder is spread in other sectors globally. Now I'm no financial guru and I understand that UK equities have for a while been deemed as 'good value' I would have at least reversed the money allocated to each fund. Add BREXIT into the mix and to be honest I'd have given the UK a 'wide berth'.. but hey ho 'they' know best apparently. When my holding 'tanked' in March due to Covid-19 lockdown to me that was an ideal opportunity to crystallise... accepting the losses and reinvesting a couple of weeks later to at least acquire much cheaper shares and increase my holding... but no they did nothing and appeared to be like a 'rabbit in the headlights. I don't know about you but even I knew that this Covid-19 malarky wasn't going to be a flash in the pan. It was obvious that it was going to go on for months - so if 'I' can realise this why did so called 'professionals' not see it? I mean it wasn't difficult was it? Anyway, I am contemplating transferring out of this Discretionary Managed fund to my personal SIPP to manage myself. Bear in mind since Feb 2019 I have paid around £5500 for the privilege of my pension not being 'managed' at all. Oh I tell a lie, they did buy into a small Gold ETF after the boat had been missed although it has still gone up by about 10%. The holding is no longer at the lows of late March early April but it is still down from my original investment. I'm not saying I could have done better BUT I couldn't have done much worse that the people I pay a lot of money to 'manage' my money. Anybody with any thoughts on what they would do in my position. Apologies for the rant and for possibly going off topic.
In the meantime enjoy what is left of the Bank Holiday and here's to a very positive JORC coming soon!
