This Omigod panic will last well past New Year. Scientists are already arguing. Just like before. Delta took over the first strain ( which I had) and put it out of business. The demand for covid pcr testing is now set to explode. And become a long-term part of society. Not hard to guess where that leaves Ncyt with a UK approved test and global market.
No point arguing with someone who has mind already mafe up though. Each to their own.

Once we are nearly all vaccinated and only then and once the poorer countries are give cheap vaccines too…only then will variants become less of a threat. No matter how many there may be. We have the gene sequencing to beat any of them via testing and vaccine.

It doesn’t matter. The point is that flexible pcr testing points …and quick results…are likely to become part of international travel and intra -society movement too. This variant was predicted. There will be many more. It’s why we can’t beat the common cold. But we got to grips with flu which has to be tweaked every year just like this.
The covid coronaviruses actively attack the immune system. So testing and regularlynupdated vaccinations and boosters are the way forward. After Omigod wll come another then another etc. As some may evade the vaccines then testing for the potential variant becomes crucial.
