Once we are nearly all vaccinated and only then and once the poorer countries are give cheap vaccines too…only then will variants become less of a threat. No matter how many there may be. We have the gene sequencing to beat any of them via testing and vaccine.

It doesn’t matter. The point is that flexible pcr testing points …and quick results…are likely to become part of international travel and intra -society movement too. This variant was predicted. There will be many more. It’s why we can’t beat the common cold. But we got to grips with flu which has to be tweaked every year just like this.
The covid coronaviruses actively attack the immune system. So testing and regularlynupdated vaccinations and boosters are the way forward. After Omigod wll come another then another etc. As some may evade the vaccines then testing for the potential variant becomes crucial.

Exactly same average as me. It hurts to be losing 30% but that’s how it is. We cannot stop bad feelings but we can look at the facts as you have posted. And sit it out through Xmas and as long as it takes.
It’s just out of our hands right now but why should we sell and give up to the market.

In 2014-16 I lost half a million. My life savings. My eldest got epilepsy. I lost my job. My health plummeted. I suffered severe stress for 7 years getting some of the money back. Hey…I know “ out of control” . I have not recovered. But each day I try to roll with it. Each day in itself.

No I agree . What I meant was that it is scaremongering that may hold water.
The chief scientist today called the fear an overreaction but agreed with border-closing. The media tend to “ scaremonger” and incite fear. This does not mean that the response is not valid. It is valid imo. The govt. can use it to promote boosters and vaxxing which I support. The response is fully appropriate against a potentially nasty little bug. But we don’t know yet.
I resent the media for stirring public fear. Some scientists too. Others are more measured. ALL of them support the borders closing. The world just does not need any more fear. Enough damage to mental health ( inc. mine) already. All I meant. I fully support these measures but our govt. has missed some loopholes. I know as I am picking son up from Tenerife. I don’t need a pcr. But I should.

It is dreadful that people have died as a result. Unacceptable morally. But it has worked in that so many unvaxxed..young and old…now have immunity as they got covid.
Mask wearing here down South is still very common on public transport and in shops. 50/50 ish. Schools are deciding for themselves and some are. My school ( teacher) is not but school other end of town is. Not sure what Bozo said about schools. He will have to make it mandatory now. Already have to test all pupils in January.
