papucel, wouldn't the tax implications of selling vs demerger very much depend upon what cost is given to the unit sold for any CGT calc ? Who knows, there may even be a Cap Loss ?!! Also, presumably HMRC will give us agreed prices to use for each of the demerged units as the Demerger is a Disposal for CGT isn't it ?

caitlin1, pwc are very reputable auditors. Are you saying they are corrupt, just wondering because BAB's books may be okay but other clients of pwc may not and have 'cooked' books ? BAB is a high alpha stock thus fell a lot today.

triomph1, ULVR have many great brands, albeit mature, surely they can grow them by creative modification and pricing instead of acquiring even more brands that they'd allow stagnate in 5 years time ?

Thanks nikylauda. Surprising that sales haven't grown as their brands are very good. Maybe they need Sales people better at growing mature brands, even reducing prices but getting higher op profit from increased volumes ?!!

fatprofits, why would the BOD try for a deal like this in the first place without consulting, at least teasing out, the major II's ? There were three rejected offers, surely plenty of time. A lot of preparatory costly admin work must also have been done, as not exactly like bidding for a used car !! Hopefully, narcissism won't dominate like it did when RBS took over ABN Ambro just before 2008/9 Crisis and Tesco spent over £1b to expand into USA !! Their lowest paid staff would have done better !!

BOD's heads are in the clouds re debt levels - up c $23m in 2021 !!? They also seem deluded in their commentary re the future ?
Hedging loss of $30m and their strategy assumes a higher oil price, maybe better to go with the flow ? Their breakeven seems in the $60's pboe ?? Been in SOCO and now this mess for years, what torture !! Future will tell !! All imo of course !!

Matt..., Couldn't they have slowly dripped their sale into the market albeit rns reporting ownership changes? I realise the 6.6% is a high volume and may warrant a discount, however the current sp shows that the sale didn't have that negative impact on the sp.
