I would be very surprised if they didn't rebuild on the same location.

Hopefully they will have a temporary unit up and running for the Andover spoke within a few weeks - in hindsight it may have been the wrong decision to have the CFC and spoke at the same location.

Myosotis - blenders at point of use are not an option for all farmers and growers - we simply don't have that technology - a NPK mix including Poly4 would probably outsell Poly4 in the marketplace.

Speaking as a grower this approach is not good enough - we would want the blends from day one - one nutrient profile doesn't fit all crops - a blend including nitrogen would be essential - this is the one thing that ICL have got right with their range.

We read a lot about sentiment and how it can shape markets maybe this year we have the ideal opportunity to see how true this is. Romaron mentions Richard Caring who spends more to revive failing restaurants but what if you translate this to a country - China.

The Chinese new year has just started - The Year of the Pig - a pig represents luck, overall good fortune, wealth, honesty, general prosperity - maybe the Chinese will take this on board and growth will accelerate again - maybe the price of Brent will respond and be back towards $80 again by the summer - sentiment is the key as always.

Its very easy for us to say this but it will require deals to be set up with fertlisier companies around the globe - CF can be one of them - to get this off the ground.

ICL already have the infrastucture in place, there will be a lot of catching up to do.

Yep, it looks like Costa want it - 121 fitted out up and running high street shops in good locations for roughly £150 grand each plus a bakery and other assets - what's not to like - a simple refit and some staff training - great !!!

I think this will be a massive win win all round.

A tie up between the three companies will enable CF to incorporate Poly4 into their NPK fertiliser - probably reducing their costs. Taking it a step further Sirius and CF could come up with a range to rival ICL's Polysulphate range that ADM could promote to their customers.

I think it is vital that Sirius promote Poly4 as a range of fertiliser options, just as ICL have done with their Polysulphate offering.

Yes, I am sure that Poly4 has massive potential for the organic and home gardener. I think the push for its use would more likely initially come from the RHS and the media rather than the manufacturers like Scotts who can't see the wood for the trees and almost never chose the best quality anything - it is all about price.

Compost manufacturers will I think use it in professional mixes and see it as a godsend - it is very difficult to formulate organic potting mixes and expensive because of the need to add so much fertiliser. As for its use in retail mixes that is totally governed by price and quality is generally very poor.

ADM are excellent at most things but they don't manufacture fertiliser.

Personally, I don't think that this is something that can wait 10 years - we need to offer the market a full range of product.

A collaboration with CF to offer the range would be the obvious answer, at least for the short term, this would be direct competition to ICL - otherwise ICL will take all the cream !!!

Poly4 is indeed an excellent product but if I want an NPK fertiliser it doesn't fit the bill - most growers will be in the market for a balanced NPK fertiliser that contains Poly4 as one ingredient.

So unless Sirius want to leave the production of other fertiliser mixes that contain Poly4 to ICL and others they will need to offer their own range to satisfy customer demand for these high margin mixes..

The best way to do that, in my view, would be by collaboration or acquisition of a existing manufacturer such as CF fertilisers.

The starch pellitising process with Poly4 is excellent but it is only a job half done from the customers point of view.

There will be demand for Poly4 to be mixed with other nutrients - especailly Nitrogen.

This can be done my simply mixing manufactrued product in the field but it is far better to produce a blended product as ICL have done with their range.

Doing this involves a manufacturing process at a fertiliser plant - like the one CF have on Teeside - this link explanins the process - note the Poly4 would be a subsitute for the other products added at the milling stage in the NPK plant.
