The latest Press Pack shows the time line for stage 2 with the construction milestones - it looks to me that the line comes around the end of February - maybe???

Yes, I thought the best bit was that the mudstone has low permeability - i.e. that it is dry.

I know nothing of engineering - are you saying that the hard rock will present no difficulties to the TBM?

One things for sure - I hope they have got plenty of cutter blades for the TBM - this mudstone looks like it is pretty hard - fine clay particles compressed into hard rock - but hopefully quite dry.

Crossrail had it easy - they were tunnelling through soft London clay.

Between 17 and 25m a day sounds perfectly achievable as long as SM are correct about avoiding the wet bits.

Lots of farmers do their own mixes and Poly4 will make this process much easier because it contains such a wide range of minerals but many other farmers and growers would simply want off the peg NPK mixes.

I think to make a big dent in the market place we need a large manufacturer for the volume on Teesside but lots of smaller ones in other locations around the globe using Polyhalite would be great.

The bottom line is that Poly4 has the adaptability to be used on its own or in compound mixes and that gives it mainstream appeal. So I don't accept your view that the project was significantly devalued in 2012 dog star.

Personally I would like to see SM taking full benefit and offer a full range of product to satisfy market demand - that would need to be done in partnership with a fertiliser manufacturer. The margins are much higher for these products than raw polyhalite.

However, I appreciate that this may not be a viable option, especially in the short term and that the mining operation must come first.

All the SM crop trials include nitrogen fertlisation at some stage shep - in the practical world NPK still dominates - righty or wrongly. Maybe Poly4 will change all that especially for organic growers.

As for the backgound noise - best ignored or filtered - these discussions are the life blood of the board and don't deserve to be devalued by flippancy.

You are quite right, they don't, but they could. The reason they don't is a commercial one.

NPK products are the mainstream for ICL and are produced in Israel using their own Potash for maximum profitability and to make best uses of their own resources.

The Polyhalite range is being promoted as a niche product and also as you say to allow farmers and growers to apply P and K separate to N.

It is important to realise with crop trials that the nutrients not being trialled are added at the standard rate - the plants grown in this mix alone are the control.

The trial will then include the control nutrients plus the nutrient to be trialled at various rates. it will also include existing products also added to the control.

Yes, point taken.

We should probably see SM as creating the opportunity for investment in Teesside and in the longer term for the area to be an international hub for fertiliser manufacture - after all it takes more than one company to create a whole new industry.

Hopefully the Government will also capitalise on the opportunity under their Northern Powerhouse banner - most of the infrastructure is already in place - industrial land, docks, transport links etc and above all people.

My background is a commercial grower - the majority of plants are fertilised using an NPK compound mix.

Just one thought - maybe the strategic partnership could be with CF fertilisers - CF UK are just a small part of this large US corporation - CF are based on Nitrogen Fert production - it would make perfect sense for them to add Poly4 to the mix to add to their product range and use Teesside as a major manufacturing base.

Yes, I think they are extremely focused in maximising potential and would agree that taking a direct investment in Sirius would be the best way forward for them. It will be very interesting to see how they bring Gleadell and maybe CF into the action - CF UK is just a small part of a large American Corporation that manufactures nitrogen based fertlisers.

When SM is fully funded, I think that we could see other players looking to establish fertiliser manufacturing on Teesside to take advantage of the polyhalite - new customers for SM - but maybe ADM will want it all for themselves and make a major investment to take Poly4 to the next level with maybe CF as a partner.

Will ADM be involved in the $400m to $600m fundraise?

On the face of it their role will be with the Poly4 starch plant - maybe they will part finance that and that will release capital to be spent elsewhere - that could be useful in the future.

Are they likely to help with the $400-600m - I have studied their website and looked at their annual reports and come to absolutely no conclusion other than they seem to have joint ventures and investments all over the place but they simply don't publicise them. I am still hopeful that they might invest.

I think we will get clarity when the end of year results are published in March and hopefully that will give the brokers clarity as well - all they see is Magus unproven and the dilution from the rights issue at the moment - hence the low targets.

We are yet to see the value of Magnus reflected in the SP - it is just Kraken and unfulfilled potential at the moment.

EP production has actually increased since the makeover last autumn - nothing brilliant, but better than it was - we had a 250k load at the end of January..

The uncrossed trade was made at 20p then that barrage of sales killed the SP to 19.04p.

The thing is, how long will this last and when it does stop the SP could fly.
