good post longwait - i am in the same boat as you. i almost sold half my holding at 46p ( about £60k) the day before the rns dropped....unfortunately .the fact we were flaring i took as a good sign..

in hindsight there had been plenty of opportunities since 36p/30p/25p/20p/15p - unfortunately i topped up thinking each time the opportunity was cheap - the company are doing what they said they would and making cash....even CV i could see a way back in a few months.
the oil price war has been the killer in my view. i guessed cuts in production if anything

i still think the price will get settled - i suspect the usa get involved could be the route.....it just remains to be seen how much damage has been done.

i still think there will be money to made in the stockmarket in the coming months but as a trader - if you can time it right.

sound - always good to hear an opposing view....i often have an opinion but it is just that - open to being proved wrong with reasoned or factual arguments. actually i am not eating any takeaway food at the moment. i feel there is a risk from droplets on any prepared food.

genghis - i am not sure you can skew the death figures????...i stopped looking at cases a long time ago as it is dependent on how widespread the testing is.. clearly uk figures are meaningless.

i have always looked at recovery v death rate on closed cases as an indication of the seriousness of this virus

longwait - i have always taken the opposing view to you.

firstly there is a big question mark to the accuracy of china's figures. As a polish engineer i was speaking to said yesterday "they are communists - and they never tell the truth they always lie - i know i lived through it". secondly they locked down the area totally. something we cant do

in europe we have the example of italy - and we are following very closely in timeline figures it seems. the italian model is going to be a lot more realistic i fear. sure they have an older population...but we were slower in locking down. they also have more ICU facilities - though it seems if you get that far too often it won't help. my only hope is that the increased washing of hands might have slowed it down...also we dont greet with kisses etc

the asian countries are firstly better prepared (sars etc) and a lot easier to control isolation.

i know nothing about algeria - so cant comment. i am sure individual countries will react differently. for example germany seems to have less fatalities than its peers. maybe better health care facilities? a small comfort if you are german but not for us.

The thing is that we have no idea how this will pan out in the west and other continents for example Africa. Also It is not just deaths but people suffering severe cases and possibly having long term damage. the longer this goes on and the more widespread the more chance of mutations and a second wave. this could then affect China again

yes there are lots of other types of deaths - and i think measures could/should be taken to reduce those. however i do not really see that as a valid argument against coronavirus spreading measures. if you get it and spread it you may indirectly contribute to someone else's death. that does not sit well with me.

AWK - we don't know what the extent of this virus will be - however the thing is that the next one might not be so easy to contain or have low mortality rates.

unfortunately the reality is that a lot of bad people will also be looking how vulnerable everything really is and the potential power of something similar.

Daltry - I felt the same when I briefly worked in Hong Kong too. At the time I always thought how a society treat their animals gives you an indication of what they are about.

If this virus was originated by bat soup or something similar - then maybe that is a wake up call for them.

bartle - my ex was italian so I know exactly what you mean. It is the most beautiful country though and every town seems to have its own character.

I have also been in awe of China and its abilities but not necessarily how they achieve. I have no doubt they will be the superpower of the future. it will be interesting to see if they think diversity is their strength

my guess is that they will come out stronger. they will probably be out danger first and ready to take commercial advantage of the devastation that has occurred.

i think the EU will have serious problems - already the italians seem to be becoming more disillusioned and resent the lack of help they received.

bartle - yes it will be interesting to see. I think somethings will go back to normal and others will be changed for good. for the conspiracy theorists the increase in government control will probably be a concern.

personally it will be interesting to see any power changes in the world. China v USA and EU /UK

edyscot - i agree. The uk was going to need to develop its own fields to become greener anyway . it only highlights the importance of HUR going forward.

i think the fact that people are now unable to travel will probably now show them what the reality of all their virtue signalling will be.

if there has been one good thing about this terrible situation is the reinforcement of what really is important. People are going to realise all the things they have taken for granted . When they have to use their energy to struggle for survival they will not have as much left for being "woke"

awk - it has always been on my mind the possibility of civil unrest....with any lockdown...i have been repeating that china can do what we cant.

AWK - looks like some real draconian stuff coming to france if the rumours are true - you will only be allowed out once a day etc

foresight - with all respect if you are going to use that metric then very few companies would be worth their cash value. you would never look at the potential of any company. they have the potential to earn cash if the POO gets an uplift.

they are going to need a farm in or cash for a FFD. this could take longer with the current macroeconomics. if the well continues to go well that will give them the time..providing no giant squids or plagues of zombies or whatever next we are expecting
