clever - at the same time. putin has been put on alert with the financial sanctions.
i don't think he will risk invading somewhere like finland/sweden with what has happened in ukraine.

a bully only does what he can get away with. the west has shown its power. you choose your battles. he can come out of this with a victory and internal popularity. sanctions would be lifted and although companies will be very wary of involving in russia - it will go back some way to previously.

i think there will be nato additions. Countries that previously were happy being neutral will want the security.

kat - i believe the price this week will be more determined by whether our guy gets sanctioned or not. if he does we will be suspended - if he doesn't then it is business as usual and the SP will rise.

poly price crashed on the belief that it will face trading difficulties from one or both sides. russia taking assets or delisting. the non russian assets currentl are worth multiples of current SP. so the danger on the russia side has been reduced leaving just what will happen here.
if our oligarch escapes attention then that risk reduces considerably.

I am heavy in here as it could be a once in a lifetime opportunity. shares that multibag and will possibly give huge dividends in relation to cost for years to come. on the other hand there is the chance of losing everything...pretty much like an AIM company!!!

at this moment i believe russia will win in ukraine - it can't afford to lose. and the west can't afford it to lose. with nuclear capability no country can lose a war. or the unthinkable could happen

the west will not give ukraine what it needs to win - only to prolong the resistance. This is a victory for the west as the longer it goes on the weaker russia will become economically. they have also shown putin that he cannot attack a nato country. so that battle has been won without any bloodshed

the question is how much destruction the ukrainians will accept before they call it a day. they are gritty and stubborn but so are the russians.
the sanctions have weakened russia financially but have strengthened them as a country - putin's rating is getting higher. lots of those who do object are leaving russia. the propaganda is constant that they are fighting fascists.

russia will get parts of the coast, and the two regions it went into it to "protect". ukraine will not join nato. it will probably have a puppet government whether led by zelensky or not

the west will have to weigh up when enough is enough in terms of the damage to the global economy..at that point their support for ukraine will quickly wane. china also is treading a fine line. it has an alliance with russia but the longer they remain on the sidelines - the more damage is being done to their economy. i agree they may be waiting for just the right time to step in and play the saviour. they will then move in and buy up russia assets . so win win for them

i agree that it could be long drawn out process. the tide has turned and instead of inviting the oligarchs in they now want their blood.

however disagree - sanctions could be listed immediately at any time they want. will the gov be wanting to be seen as being anti russian when this is all over? i have been surprised that boris has been so vocal against putin. lets hope putin gets replaced as that wont be easy in the future

well seeing as the russians are right at kiev - there must be a danger to zelensky.
putin might not care how russia is percieved in the world but his potential successors will. they won't be wanting to be living with the threat of war crimes.
at some point china will start suffering from these sanctions too....as it is going to affect global economy and rush us towards a global recession.
.already anti china sentiment is rising. they played it cute with covid as they fought it with raceest rhetoric. siding with russia will make them fair game.

putin has seen with the resistance put up that he cannot integrate ukraine in russia .
there are only 2 ways he can win now. a) get enough gains to make it look like a victory - crimea and coast are the real jewels here. the 2 russian population areas that he went in under the pretence of protection are symbolic more than strategic
b0 destroy ukraine - if i can;'t have it then no one can

the biggest threat to poly is if our guy gets sanctioned. then poly could be suspended like evraz. you have to then weigh up the risk of being locked in v being locked out. personally i want in because if it goes the right way then its a multibag. the day peace is announce would be too late to get in. war makes a lot of people rich unfortunately ...and for once the little guy has a chance

of course the danger is losing everything - if they get forced to delist. however the anger is at the oligarchs and not the russian people. the west will need to rebuild some working economic relationship with russia - certainly until they can afford to cut ties. it is ok saying you want to be out of russian gas in the next 5 years but doing it is another thing. big business is currently virtue signalling but facing angry shareholders when profits and SP dive will be another matter.

russia is a leper at the moment but i wonder if there will be a reverse swing will be to fighting russiaphobia after the war?
the complication is that the oligarchs are in every cross fire and i dont see this going due to envy in the way they have used the west as their playground.
there needs to be a way that these russian companies can stay trading but the olis can't profit by trading their shares

tbh in a fight between ukrainians and syrians - my money would be on the home guys.

the fact putin has to rely on syrians is that i suspect the war is starting to lose public support. he is possibly worried that more russian soldiers going to the front will be worse for moral not better.
with the threat of war crimes - i suspect it is only a matter of time before some high profile deserters start coming. at some point his close buddies will be tempted to overthrow him - put an end to all the misery and advance themselves in a new regime.

the fact that they were on ftse should have meant that they were a legit company. even if they supplied steel for tanks that was legal at the time. it is only that once they started war - the west wants to stop anything that prolongs the war.
however when war is over the there should be no issue other than how RA shares will be dealt with

evraz has not been sanctioned as some are saying - just RA.
the damning allegation that they were involved in russian tanks left fca no choice.

in my opinion either a legal rumpus will be kicked up and we are restored quickly or more l;ikely we will stay suspended until war is over.
I think sanctions will stay against RA after the war - they will want to punish the oligarchs for a long time after. there has to be away whereby evraz can trade again but he can't sell his stock ...even if he wants to.

after this war is over - the west will have to deal with russia again. putin is not russia. i suspect the best result will be a change of regime whereby everything can be blamed on him and normal service resumed

There should be a duty of care to shareholders.by the LSE ..after all we were told that is why we are being suspended. My hope is that they will be mindful of how they treat ruskie companies as it will send a message to any other foreign companies willing to set up shop here.

Hopefully evraz can ride out the current anti russian sentiment..both the west and Russia will need each other going forward ..if/when the war resolves. Hopefully the suspension will also take the heat out of the situation.
