Williamson / Caspian / Last two RNS15 Dec 2021 21:27
From what I see, Williamson mine made a negligible contribution of approx 1% to revenue for FY 2021.
For that reason, I'm unconcerned about the impact of a modest change in its ownership with the government. I think there is more to this than meets the eye. I don't think it's a coincidence that we've subsequently sold half of our remaining Williamson shareholding to Caspian (a wholly owned Tanzanian company...). My guess is that the Tanzanian government flexed it muscles. It was an offer we couldn't refuse...
In any case, I see it as the best way forward; Petra gets to sell the parcel of diamonds that was previously confiscated by the Tanzanian government and Petra will receive share sale proceeds from Caspian. This looks like the best compromise solution and Petra is now more focussed on the three South African mines: Cullinan, Finsch and Koffiefontein, which accounted for 99% of revenues.
This draws a another line under the Williamson fiasco and I think it's a good development.
