RE: Everyone needs to calm down12 Dec 2020 10:18
Mulletman - Doesn't make sense they way you have described this. The first issue is 6 months? Its impossible to Vac Europe in 6 months, never mind the world - Second problem, the current two Vacs/from what I understand the 3rd (Oxford) none of them prevent the person being vaccinated passing on CV19 - 3rd problem, how long will the antibodies last for? Lets say a year at best - Repeat the Vac programme, worldwide - 4th problem, you need a min 70% uptake (Measles is 94% for herd immunity)
Are 70% of people going to have the Vac - Think about Europe as well - I would say no, not in the 24 months at least.
5th problem, me/you and X will have different timescales, so if I had the Vac mine might last 6 months, yours 4/ X person 12 - So now I cacth it, you catch it - and we pass it onto to similar people using my example timeline - Now what? Then you 'miss' your allocated date for the 2nd Vac, millions do, now what?
6th - Apart from the UK, a lot of countries in Europe have made it mandatory to wear masks - Portugal as an example have already stated masks will be worn for 2021, as well as any visitors/tourists.
IMO three things will happen:
1) Testing will be an everyday event, that includes home testing so we can test before we leave.
2) Mask wearing will continue for at least another 18 months.
3) The Vacs, there are going to be a lot of surprises, its part of the answer, but its not the holy grail - For me, testing is the long term solution so we can get back to 'some' normality.
Lastly, there is only one mask out there that repels SARS and its washable - The RRP is too hight for mass wearing - In the next year or so this new tech will get cheaper as long as the MOQ's on production ramp up.
