fordm - I enjoyed the beginnings of your "endless" list of issues and problems in our everyday lives. I enjoy a good rant myself, so it's nice to see someone else join in - good effort.
Do you remember the Billy Joel song "We Didn't Start the Fire" from 1989? A brilliant 4 minute rant about various issues and events from the 1950's up to the 1980's. Some of those issues (eg. Russia, vaccines, drugs, China) still have resonance today. We need a new version of that song to reflect all the issues, events and problems of this era. I might have a go myself - it will give me something to do while the stock exchange is closed for the long weekend.

IAG share certificates currently qualify as aviation fuel. How sustainable that is , given the current rate of decline, is debateable.

Jtan - I have just worked out a way to save money. I am going to sell my IAG shares, turn them into cash, then spend the day sat in my leather hot-pants throwing £20 notes onto my fire. This should result in a net loss which is smaller than holding onto my shares. Which is - relatively speaking - a gain, no?

It's crazy really. Airlines have been pretty much grounded for 2 years, with most people unable to fly anywhere due to lockdowns and travel restrictions. Just as that mostly comes to an end, you have airlines cancelling flights left right and centre, and people who are desperate to travel being unable to do so due to cancelled flights, and the chaos brought about by staff related issues. If someone had forecast this whole scenario 2 1/2 years ago, they would have been carted off by men in white coats. The whole industry seems to have a death wish.

Reppyrr -I agree. Full disclosure - I used to work for BA, and for a long time now they have engaged in a race to the bottom when it comes to staff pay and conditions. It's one of the reasons I left. At some point that policy is going to come back and bite you in the rear. While it may disadvantage me as an investor, I can't help but feel a bit of schadenfreude at their self-inflicted wounds.
That said, I hope that this get's resolved before that, as a strike at this point in time is not good for anybody.

Just turned on the TV (my first mistake of the day), and once again the airline industry is headline news for all the wrong reasons. Disappointing, as I had only just woken up from a rather pleasant dream where the headlines were "IAG share price rockets after reporting record profits", and "Kylie Minogue to wed mystery British man nicknamed Bobbins".
Think I'll go back to bed.

Well this is nice - up 10% in a week (albeit from a very low base). Just shows how quickly things can change. Of course, that cuts both ways. Hope there won't be a sell-off come Wednesday from punters nervous about holding over the long weekend. If a week is a long time in politics, 4 days can be an eternity for the stock market.
