Are the airlines encouraging ministers to keep barriers to discourage while they bring the fleets back into full service over time, or are the ministers keeping the barriers as a form of population movement control for health or other reasons? All the search engines can help give an overview of ticket price levels, not the just the headline grabbers. It is those last few seats held back for people who must travel last minute and will pay whatever is required at the airport that can give an indicator. If there are another 10 flights over the next couple of hours then those last couple of tickets may not even be sold. If they are being sold in the thousands, then it means overall capacity is severely limited for last minute bookings. It can be very lucrative though if you are prepared to get bumped to a latter flight, next day or something, when there are no seats around! Done that in years gone by in my hippie tree huggin' days, lol.

Of note in this article is the talk of border restrictions based on booster jabs. So far opening up of borders has been made easily available for vaccinated people. Looks like this may develop into requiring people to have booster jabs for free travel too. UK already to put booster record on the NHS vacc certificate, but for other countries keeping such records and data is going to be a challenge.

And on top of that, there may be a technical reason why Astra jabed people are not getting hospitalized to the same degree and Pfizer and Moderna jabbed. So the acceptable situation in the UK is not being replicated, and will not be replicated, in many other places making a return to normality much more difficult. The estimates of the travel industry not getting back to pre pandemic levels until 2024 might well be more realistic than I would like to admit.

Large ticket prices indicate very low capacity in the market. The return of flights on the transatlantic routes has not been a full timetable start up. It has been a few routes, and a few more being added slowly. There are not hundreds of IAG/BA flights per day across the Atlantic charging £2500 for each budget seat. Look at skyscanner, most seat prices are being discounted across many airlines because flying is still a pain with all the testing required.

And as for the capacity compared to 2019, again you need to keep an eye on what is being compared. Yes, the morning flight to JFK from Heathrow might be 100%, but how many of the other flights are actually flying now compared to 2019. It is probably something like only 10 or 20% of the number of planes are flying - that is a wild guess because that kind of real world number is not being publicised anywhere, only the number on whatever flights have restarted.

Is it 100% of all 2019 flights or 100 of the few flights that are current or the forward booking at 100% of flights as they are being restarted? Careful of a bit of PR spin.

Great news! No not all that booking numbers stuff or any of that fundamentals crap! KFC have brought back the gravy boat, and as a bargain bucket. So, if I can squeeze a few pence more on the sp I can cash my grand in and have a enough for a gravy boat bargain bucket, or two, whilst avoiding any sudden rights issue. It's all coming together!
