Of course the UK never doubled or trebled their GDP per capita over that period. We were and are a developed country. Going by your figures if we'd increased our GDP by seven fold we'd have a GDP per capita of around $196,000. The highest in the world.
If you want to base your rhetoric on evidence compare Russia with a developing country. China has increased its GDP per capita by over 20 times over this period, Bangladesh by 12. Why is Russia lagging behind? Why with all their natural resources and land is GDP per capita only $14,000? Simple answer, bad government. Russia should probably be the 5-6th largest economy in the world instead of the 11-12th. Around 200 oligarchs and Putin have taken around $1 trillion from the country since 2000. If they'd invested that in building infrastructure, education, health care, building strong institutions they wouldn't have a GDP per capita of only $14,000. Now Putin wants to plough $100bn plus a year and 500,000 life's into a senseless war. Anyone who thinks that's good for the economy is thick. Russia is a country in decline which is why Putin is lashing out. He's hungry for power so bad he started this war and killed or injured 500,000 of his own people. Sooner he's dead and gone the better.
