Putin is unlikely to accept any settlement that doesn't not include sanctions being lifted and any war crimes charges being dropped. Again its unlikely anyone (except maybe Trump) will agree to that. In this case a freezing of the conflict would be a better option. In a North South Korea type scenario. Sanctions remain in place, more war crimes charges are brought forward and the diplomatic war continues. The Ukrainians sit it out until Putin is dead or gone to try and negotiate their land back. Mean while the rest of Ukraine joins NATO and the EU.

What should really happen is the West gets its act together and give Ukraine what it needs to defeat Russia on the battle field. Which as mentioned below, unpredictable Trump may actually do:

Trump stopping given arms to Ukraine will force them into surrendering their land. The Ukrainians' don't need Trump to negotiate their surrender. They can do that on their own.

A Trump victory assumes Russia, Ukraine, Europe all agree to his peace proposals. Very unlikely. I think a Trump victory is just going to make a messy situation worse. On the other hand a Harris victory is just going to be more of the same weak policy.

I should have added how awful this must be for the Ukrainian people. Some of their men have been living in the trenches for a decade now. Now another head banging dictator is going to start sending his men there for no reason what so ever, apart from greed and a hunger for power.
