''who continue to be paid while operations are paused.''
so paid for doing nothing - for X weeks, Y months , Z years ?
They made a statement yesterday
https://www.imperialbrandsplc.com/media/key-announcements/2022/update-on-russia---ukraine.html
Apparently according to a guardian article they ceased operations unlike bat, another article independent, seemed to suggest they announced it 2 weeks ago. I'm not sure that they are right. No Rns of course
Cigarettes are as much part of war as bullets, prostitution and shotgun marriages. If you are worried about getting your brain blown out any minute who cares about lung cancer.
Do you mean to say that Russians do not smoke IMB made cigarettes?
Rockon - not exposure to Russia that is the issue. Manufacturing in Ukraine which is issue which believe supplies a lot of eastern europe
There may be some downsides in connection with current sad situation but have wanted to add these for divi for a while so took the plunge at 15.30.
Surely can’t be expensive at these levels; time only will tell! GLA!
Final accounts show hardly anything in Russia!
On the face of it this stock is looking super cheap. Think a lot of investors are now though totally scared of anything Russia and Ukraine related. IMB need to come out and clearly state what % of their sales are in these countries and whether they are planning to continue to operate in these markets. Things have moved very fast and even a great business in Russia could now effectively be worthless (or worse) due to sanctions.
@Yolodn,
Yes, think my target will be circ£15.50; start accumilating from there. Off 34 or 2% today. Exposure to Russia/Ukraine need looking into.
Lgen. Bought first tranche @ 259 on yesterday's 8am drop. Looking to increase on run up to XD, then perhaps 'divi dodge again'.; 6 weeks till then. Lgen exposure to Russia is said to be very little.
Bought BHP a few months back @ circ£18.75 on a hopefull recovery in Iron Ore price. Couldn't resist selling this morning into recent rally @ £27.11; Only £23 a week or so back, so will be buying back into any retrace.
Good luck all
Piggy
Pretty similar position to me. Bought in around the £14.50 mark - Micheal Burry also owns a lot of these at a similar price. Will happily buy more sun £15. I’m also looking at Lgen around the £2.50 mark.
Personally I’m not too worried about a reduction in sales in Russia/Ukraine. What does worry me is the commodity inflation that we are going to see because of it. Just take a look at the commodity futures, especially wheat and palladium.
@Throne.....you must be hurting a tad; guess you got into EVRE @ circ150??
Down to a quid today....high risk stuff for me that! Good luck tho, & hope fortune favours the brave.....
I like IMB & traded them well up until selling out in December. Now i see they were @ 1,746 on 23 Feb, only 4 trading day's ago. In fact the SP touched 1,613 at one point on Friday, tho has recovered slightly since. An 8% drop at that point. My view is that it may well drop sub £16 if this war goes on. Also need to factor in that the larger dividends are behind us now, so the two much smaller one's to come. Last year was buying these @ circ£15, down to my lowest @ 1,358.
It's a 'watch n wait' for me.
Also, i like Lgen & bought @ 270 the other day. Huge 14p dividend soon (XD 14 April). Dropped a little but have a Limit Order set @ 250p to buy more.
Good luck all
Pig
Loaf, you did well. I was tempted to do the same but ended up buying more DEC on Fri. I'm considering moving my entire pension fund to high dividend paying stocks over time. This means I can make annual withdrawals while keeping my capital more or less intact. The danger is another black swan event like March 2020 when most dividends were cut. My thinking is that I will probably top up IMB on Monday, having taken profits on MSFT etc on Friday. My recent additions have been MNG and PSN...and EVRAZ...big upcoming divi! I never recommend shares to other people. This is just a record of what I have been doing. All the usual acronyms.
After slicing some IMB a few weeks ago, i've decided to buy back in at 1650p today & if they drop further i'll add more.
ZeroHedge have highlighted a JPM report that lists Philip Morris as at greater risk from Ukraine fallout than others in the sector.

There is no logic to this drop in SP today except perhaps automatic selling of FTSE 100 stocks. I'm selling some U.S shares with a view to buying more IMB tomorrow.
Yeah that helps. Not good.
- Ukraine is the second largest market for IMB in Eastern Europe
- Only mention of Russia in its latest annual report refers to the company winning a "top employer" award - so definitely operational in the region. Hope this helps
What is their exposure to Ukraine and Russia? I know they exited some business in Russia but still think they do quite a lot of business there. Expecting super strong sanctions which effectively make it impossible for western companies to do business there. Anybody any idea?
Interestingly the share price started to pick up around this time last year ( late February ) from the low £13s.
The situation in Russia if it deteriorates will effect most shares at least temporarily, in my view - I don't think IMB will be particularly protected. I tend to ( or attempt to ) accumulate rather than trade so just try to ride these things out.
Me thinks this may go up on the back of the Ukraine news ? who knows but fags and booze have made defensive stocks in the past .No doubt there will be a reaction in the markets ,hope my Shell and BP bounce back too today .
My answer / opinion: Lack of interest. The next two divis are smaller. I see this SP as being weak over the next 6 months. I genuinely plan to add to my holding during the summer. I won't trade.
One word - Putin
Why the 1.8% drop today ? Shift from Value Shares to Growth Shares or just profir taking I wonder ?
Whilst I realise we have 2 bigger and 2 smaller divis does anybody think they may try and increase the smaller 2 divis once more in time ?, I like 4 divis a year but im not too sure even why they have 2 bigger ones and 2 smaller ones rather than than just a bigger final etc and 3 smaller equal ones ?.Anyway its the GSK final big one coming next for me so once that goes ex divi i will get some more of these, so if the IMB gods can tread water in Feb before rocketing up in march it would be appreciated.
