And with respect, where and when is that point The goVernment is the highest authority. They hold all the cards. Who can put a deadline on the government to make a decision? Without a legal challenge from the company, there is no deadline which the government will accept.
anyone listened yet? https://www.brrmedia.co.uk/broadcasts/5a7074d5355d6777c5171887/121-mining-cape-town-beowulf-mining
My immediate thought was "here we go, a civil servant doing whatever s/he can do to get the file off their desk". But, as you say, this is what BEM asked for - comments on BEM's positive statement for the whole community. Three weeks isn't long and, given that the Sami/CAB comments have been rubbished, I can't see any way the Gov't could look at all the evidence and legally conclude NO.
Correction Ibjj, With respect, at some point the government HAS to make a decision. It will be a legal requirement.
So to clarify, in a world of finite resources, this hi grade iron ore will remain in the ground, and never be mined? Again, I understand you concerns at the moment, but fail to see that being the final outcome.
No. Never. Because the swedish government will not make a decision.
Thank you Andy for the positive spin as we’re all aware we’re at the sharp end here. I can’t see what additional feedback would be required after these submissions for the govt to decide. I agree this is likely to strengthen bems position and the tight timescale means a decision by your suggested June is likely or before.
I understand your concerns at the moment. but do you think this will ever be resolved in favour of the license for BEM?
It is incredible to me that, after almost 5 years there are people whose opinion of all this relies on their wishful thinking rather than the relentless and overwhelming evidence to the contrary.
As agreed,we are all entitled to our opinions on this board.Given ADF's track record over a long period of time,he is never far off the mark so prefer to run with his opinion on this one. Thanks Andy.Nice to start the week off on a positive note.
Thank you. By the way, it doesn't say in the RNS that the MI also has been invited to provide their comments, that's a piece of "inside information" from me.
figured you weren't British :)
I'm 47 now and i see out language going down the toilet, too much american TV and a lack of pride in being british. it makes me really mad. the BBC are going down hill what hope is there if the they can't get it reet. I work in the scientific sector and read papers by British authors using American spelling; no hope!!
I'm from Sweden :)
As one of the most respected contributors to this BB i am pleased that you ADF see this development as good news. Thank you for your contribution. I look forward with some confidence that my whopping holding will benefit me.
Absolutely... The one that drives me crazy is could of, should of etc. It is could have should have. Both verbal and written laziness and abuse of our language. Even BBC presenters do it.
He says that to show stock holders that he understands the frustrations of the timeframe, and that it seems a bit silly to comment the comments on a comment, but that's what it takes to get the opinions from these different organizations. I'm very pleased with this update.
not to be picky but organisation is spelt with an "S" i hate the fact we are getting lazy and adopting the yank way of talking and spelling. where is the pride??
Andy, no they didn't, read the RNS again..."it seems as though this process is never ending"
"it seems as though this process is never ending"
Sadly the government has no interest in making a decision at all...
I'm not at all interested in a decision, I'm only interested in a "yes" decision - and for that to happen, more organizations needs to be on the side of the mining company. After this, we will have plenty of organizations on our side. Plus, the deadline is a tight one for government business, only three weeks. Perhaps my June guess needs to be revised.
Morning llbj. This is what most of us expected, I will go one step further and say this will not go legal. The government's lawyers will already of had this case on there desks for many months and advised the government officials that Bem have done the application to the book and even gone further than nessecery on providing information that's not required at this stage of the application . No government body would go to court and challenge this with the odds stacked highley against them. For one the government want this application to go through. Two, the Sami are only consultees. And Three the cost of proceedings would be high and at a time of elections the officers would not risk such a high bill landing on there laps plus Bems costs if they lost or settled. AIMO only as I've been here a few times myself with council planning in our country. Have a good day regards Dudly
HAHAHAHAHAHA!
Completely unnecessary. The government have been in a position ti decide for a long time.
