MrSpeculator’s moan inspired me to do some further research, so credit to him for saying we’re at risk of losing early mover advantage and we need to get a move on or we’ll be overtaken etc etc, grumble, whinge.
Earlier today Awacta tweeted this article:
https://blogs.jwatch.org/hiv-id-observations/index.php/rapid-inexpensive-home-testing-for-covid-19-may-get-us-out-of-this-mess-before-a-vaccine/2020/07/05/
Scroll down and you’ll see a graphic containing logos of the other companies that have developed or are developing a rapid test. Google them. Please. Just in case I’ve made an error.
I can’t see any other company on the planet that have developed or are anywhere near developing a pregnancy style saliva test. There is simply no competition and zero risk of falling behind. All the tests listed need swabs or bits of kit.
Awacta are the only company developing a test capable of mass screening. Let that sink in.
Awacta have also tweeted that a test that meets the guidelines of 80% if deployed frequently enough would beat PCR testing for effectiveness, especially considering the issues with swab samples. Now imagine a 90% LFD. Or even a high performing 95% test. Then consider if it’s worth being patient.
I’ve always felt that we wouldn’t get a huge proportion of the LFD market, that competition would emerge. That list suggests otherwise, we’re currently at no risk at all of missing out or of not becoming the dominant player. The scale of the opportunity shouldn’t be underestimated.

Great post PL75, wish they'd hurry up though...
Hello PL75,
Super post and research. I agree that in terms of all the jigsaw pieces that Avacta are still in the driving seat.
I guess I was having a bit of a rant and a whinge.
Below is the link of the one I heard on the news. But as I say as far as I am aware they have no backer or distribution channel:
https://www.gov.uk/government/news/new-saliva-test-for-coronavirus-piloted-in-southampton
The good news re that link is that the results take 48 hours whereas our test result would take 10-15 mins right
Thanks for the hard work and for sharing it. The five of us who haven't filtered you are grateful.
This is nothing like our spit stick. The samples have to be sent off for analysis.
I fully understand why you were having a moan. It turns out ‘a few weeks’ is quite a long time, but when you consider what will hopefully be achieved an extra week or two won’t matter.
Well yes I still believe if we get a strong accurate test and work towards the numbers of tests we have all calculated that this will move us beyond our previous £2.15 resistance. And the SP has been robust. I am just keen for all our patience to be rewarded I guess. And some profit would not go amiss either ^ ^
Blimey 26 people don't filter PL75! I will plug this into my super computer hmmmm very interesting....
Don’t panic toaster, it’s just all my alt accounts and the rest of the crew.
Ha
Top post, your talent is obviously more towards back room than marketing. Some interesting names to follow up on.
Great post PL75 - thanks for sharing. Recommended :o)
Blimey a PL75 post with 40 recs, maybe good times are finally coming...
PL.... super post. Very nice to have someone else confirm it because it’s what I have been saying to myself over & over again as I overextended myself into Avacta. Most recently like an addict that needs more. Heavily invested and looking forward to a run of blue days from herein.
R u sure.
Nailed it PL75. Post of the week!
From zero, to hero, it's a beautiful thing! I have a tear in my eye :)
Alright enough with the multiple accounts
Do wot
Aaaw Mikey... It took me ages though. Sigh.
Lovely response. Shucks, you guys! Here’s hoping to more depressing episodes by MrS giving me an opportunity to cheer him up.
I started looking at some of the names. On a wider aspect it’s amazing some of solutions for things that are out there.
Casper. Gene editing solution based on known tech. Based argentina.
Tested a small number of patients. Good result
Test is fiddly with different steps. They have combined several steps into 2 and are looking to make one cartridge.
Price point stated as 6 dollars
Seems like early days of putting prototype together (same could be said avacta). Information flow not massive and I didn’t get feeling they will ship soon.
Well done PL75 that was excellent research yesterday !
Brilliant post PL75.
