If you follow the link to explore XC90, you can get 360 view of the interior. Darlek on the dash seems to be a grid of some sort. I suspect the camera may be in darkish plastic above the mirror, where it faces the occupants at the correct angle down?

Non of the 4 Smart Eye AB Patents from 2018/19 have any Mosaics that show the camera in any other position than directly in front of the driver from my brief skim. The central positioning also lends it self to occupant monitoring which I believe also is not covered in any SE Patent.

Yes, in a name. So, only up to 37mph, so convenience, so bang goes Vision 2020.

Maybe the camera is there due to the sun issue?

Haven't seen the camera in that location before. And the caption after the '94%.....' bit calls it 'City Safety....' so I'm assuming for low speeds. Therefore it could be our friends SEYE?

More than happy to be proved wrong.

I assume the spherical 'Dalek Eye' in the centre left of the dash is the camera. Not a shape or position I've seen before but that tells me nothing.

2nd last bullet point on that video

"94% of accidents are caused by human factors"

SM have world renowned Dr Mike

SEYE think " the human factor" is a new Simon Cowell show

Its safety so its SM.

RE: Autonomous Planes
Today 18:32
Beef, re your 07:23 (sorry at work) why are autonomous planes ridiculous, the Us military currently train more ucav (unmanned combat aerial vehicle or drones ) pilots than regular ones. civilian airliners already navigate their way around the globe and then routinely land themselves. Airbus claims it has the autonomous technology already, but I agree passengers are not likely to be accepting the idea any time soon. Despite this our aviation division still has an exciting and very lucrative opportunity ahead.

'An option we're hoping makes the order sheet by the time the CT4 bows this fall: Super Cruise. It's confirmed for the V-Series cars, so it seems likely Cadillac will at least offer it on the up-level base cars, as well. Having fallen in love with the early beta version of Tesla Autopilot, I'm eager to get more experience with GM's fully fledged riff on that idea. '

Volvo is to develop an AI platform for self-propelled trucks in cooperation with Nvidia
The engineering company Volvo has signed a partnership agreement with the American company Nvidia to jointly develop an advanced AI platform for self-propelled trucks. This is a long-term partnership that extends over several years, according to a press release.

- Automation creates great advantages both for our customers and for society at large in terms of safety, energy efficiency and as a consequence of this productivity. We continue to introduce autonomous applications at all levels, from systems that support drivers to self-driving vehicles and machines. The partnership with Nvidia is an important next step on that trip, says Volvo Manager Martin Lundstedt.

The work starts immediately with co-located staff from both companies, both in Gothenburg and in Santa Clara in California.

The solution is based on Nvidia's software for sensor processing, perception, map location and route planning.

You've bought shares in a company that's in the right place at the right time -

'While this new version of Pro-Pilot is hands-free, it is not eyes-free. A camera inside the car will monitor the driver's face and eyes to make sure he or she is always looking at the road ahead. That is something Tesla cars do not do, which was another point of criticism from Consumer Reports.

Jake Fisher, director of auto testing for Consumer Reports, called that kind of driver monitoring "hugely a game changer in terms of safety for these sorts of systems." The inclusion of driver monitoring was the main reason that Consumer Reports gave Cadillac Super Cruise its highest rating among automated driving systems, Fisher said.'

A 'game changer'. It'll take time but I believe SEE is now entering into execution phase. The price is pretty much 'bombed out' so the upside pressure is greater than the downside pressure. That's my reasoning though little consolation to those holding at prices above today's price

I keep in mind EPO. Fell from around 65p to 5p (in 5 years) and then was taken out at around 68p. So it took 5 years to fall to a point and that fall was then regained in the space of around a few weeks. The stock market is BRUTALLY cruel at times but objective

RE: Autonomous Planes

A passenger aircraft being autonomous without the need of a pilot is ridiculous quite frankly. This will not happen for a very, very long time. Uber killed people because of autonomy, imagine if a passenger aircraft carrying 100+ people crashed because of autonomy….. Lets stay grounded and get autonomous cars first before we look to the skies.

Guys guys,

It was a bit of sarcasm more than anything else, I even quoted ET. Realistically the company goes from strength to strength every year which is always very hopeful and I remain as always very hopeful.

I hate to do a Baxter or S7 as I'm a massive fan of SEE, but to put a downer on the upbeat posts (playing devils advocate), one big difference now is the SP. Much less than this time last year even with all the good news coming out. #just saying :(

Beef. Simple answer to your question number 1 - if the plane is autonomous, then the pilot can be ill and the plane could still land.

Simples :)

I don't think airliners will ever operate with one pilot at least not in the next 10-20+ years. I don’t think the reasons will be because the technology is not available but more because of the human factor and safety/ culture fundamentals.

1. What if the pilot falls ill during the flight (heart attack or something else)
2. We like the thought of having to people at the helm of an aircraft because of multiple reasons:
Terrorism
Pilot mental health
Two brains are better than one

Terrym, I also expect single pilot aircraft, but not any time soon, it will be years away. Driven by pilot shortages and costs, the aviation companies will push things forward. In the meantime we can still monitor the entire worlds aircraft and build up many billions of miles of belief in the technology. Getting the regulatory approvals hasn’t been helped by the ongoing 737max saga.

Red

Puts it into perspective really.
There also wasn’t no confirmed EuroNCAP legislation, RCA contract, Super cruise rolling out SC to the rest of Cadillac & then GM other models. The thought of Mercedes, BMW & Ford expanding their models with DMS.

So as you say nothings really changed.
