Driver monitoring systems
The safety authorities want to incentivise automakers to include driver monitoring systems that can detect impaired and distracted driving to prevent accidents.
ANCAP currently awards three points for occupant status monitoring. Two points are for seat belt reminders while one is for the presence of a driver monitoring system that defaults to being on at start-up and can’t be turned off with the simple press of a button.
For 2022, it wants to expand assessment to include systems that detect the driver’s state and warn of hazards while intervening if necessary.
Automated in-cab driver monitoring and how it has revolutionised the workplace and transport safety along with technologies to monitor, coach and improve driver performance and behaviour will be a key focus for the eagerly awaited series of forest safety webinars being run for local forestry, wood harvesting and wood transport companies on 16-18 June. Full details can be found and registrations made on the event website, Forest Safety & Technology 2020.
From India, any cars going there?

This is interesting.
With respect to Level 2 systems that are currently
commercially available, the NTSB has recommended verifying
that manufacturers incorporate safeguards that limit the use
of ADASs to those conditions for which they are designed. The
NTSB has also called for the development of standards for
driver monitoring systems that will minimize driver
disengagement, prevent automation complacency, and
account for foreseeable misuse of the automation.
However, it is critical,
particularly in the context of Level 2 vehicles that are
being driven on public roads today, that humans
maintain a meaningful level of engagement and control
even in the presence of automation. And, as we move
toward increased levels of automation, it is important
that developers design safeguards into the testing
environment, including the management of risk
associated with operator inattentiveness."
With the timelines for fully autonomous vehicle deployments stretching out, much of the automated driving technology space is pivoting toward the booming advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) market. To help us understand what's driving that market and how it's developing, we are joined by Aine Denari, the SVP of ADAS at the giant Tier One supplier ZF. Denari walks us through the regulation, sensors and capabilities that are making cars more automated than ever.

Hotz was so confident that he said during the interview that he’d make a bet of $10,000 that Tesla will have to enable driver monitoring, before their FSD is good enough to relieve the driver of their responsibilities.
