The US car manufacturer General Motors (GM) wants to bring its automated driving system called Super Cruise to Europe with its Cadillac brand. "If it is legally possible, as early as 2025," GM's Head of Europe Pere Brugal told Welt am Sonntag.

GM is currently working with the European authorities and politicians on a legal framework for the harmonized introduction of such systems and on the approval of Super Cruise for Europe. According to the manufacturer, Super Cruise is now available on more than one million kilometers of road in North America.

Seeing Machines Ltd (AIM:SEE, OTC:SEEMF) CEO Paul McGlone and CFO Martin Ive sat down with Proactive’s Tylah Tully to discuss the company’s FY24 results and quarterly KPIs.

McGlone emphasised Seeing Machines’ automotive expansion, stating, “Greater than 2.6 million cars on the road, eight programs in production…demonstrates our ability to get programs over the line.”

This quarter alone, the company reported over 405,000 vehicles, representing a 100% increase year-over-year.

The executives also explained changes to KPI metrics due to a new agreement with Caterpillar, including a one-time $16.5 million payment, which led to the removal of Caterpillar’s sales volume from Seeing Machines’ KPIs.

McGlone noted that emphasising “hardware sales and annual recurring revenue” will help shareholders more clearly understand Seeing Machines’ growth and margin profile

Remember when the Tesla Model Y outsold every other electric car, anywhere in the world, all the time? That was then; this is now. According to Yahoo Finance, registration data from Germany’s Motor Transport Authority (KBA) shows the Volkswagen brand has delivered 49,200 electric cars in that country through the end of October. BMW has delivered 33,167. Tesla is in third place with 31,461 delivered. A skip and a hop away, Cars Guide says MG has taken the EV sales lead in the UK.

While Volkswagen may be leading the EV pack in Germany, its sales of its battery-electric cars have declined since a year ago at this time, when it delivered 9,400 more EVs than it did in the same period of this year. Tesla sales are down by 23,300 cars compared to their performance in 2023. BMW, on the other hand, is seeing a solid increase in sales of its electric cars. It sales are up by 6,600 cars compared to a year ago at this time.

GM’s diverse lineup aims to meet the needs of a wide range of drivers. With the luxury of the Cadillac LYRIQ, the rugged power of the GMC HUMMER EV supertruck and SUV, the hardworking Chevy Silverado EV, and the affordable, family-friendly Chevy Equinox EV, GM is focused on making the transition to electric vehicles accessible and appealing.

This strategic approach is yielding impressive results. In the third quarter of 2024, GM set a new company record for EV sales, delivering over 32,000 electric vehicles in the U.S.—a 46% increase from the previous quarter and a 60% rise year-over-year.

Automated driving assistance is similarly whatever. My EV6 has the Highway Driving Assistance 1 setup, which is basically lane-holding radar cruise control where you have to keep your hands on the wheel when it's on. After experiencing General Motors' utterly superb Super Cruise in a recent test of the Chevy Equinox EV, and positive experiences with Ford's BlueCruise, I'm on team "hands off or go home" at this point. Kia is tepidly bringing the conditional Level 3 Highway Driving Pilot system to the EV9 at some point, but on the whole, the Koreans' autonomy game feels rather behind the curve—at least as far as consumer vehicles are concerned.

Similarly, the navigation just isn't all that great—certainly not anywhere near up to par with the class-leading Google Maps integration built into the Android-based systems used by GM, Volvo, Polestar and others. "Trust but verify" is my rule with the Kia's navigation; it's sent me to some weird places and in weird ways. Of course, I could get around this if I used Apple CarPlay, but that feels like cheating.
