The FTSE has been the star performer since October but was the worst performer overall for 2020. It is still some way below its highs and still represents the best yielding national market . The pound is up but against the dollar is still closer to lows than recent highs. International inflows to the ftse are strong, recognising the cyclical and value nature of the stocks, under valued pound and also the over-blown brexit fears. the markets are looking beyond the next 6 weeks to ever higher commodity prices and a release of savings into leisure spending once the lock down is over.
So, with the prospect of a full lockdown for at least 6 weeks, restrictions to probably last for a year in some form or other, a double dip recession looming, millions forecast to be jobless and a colossal budget deficit with furlough and support packages being racked up etc etc, the FTSE rises by around 5% since the start of 2021. How can/will this be sustained?! One thing is for sure, you can never second guess the market. GLA

Hopefully so.

think Bois will cave in now, thought Boris had balls.
Pretty good Denby, hit 6315 then bounced
The bounce was reasonably impressive.
So some shares may not go as low as they did again after today whilst others will sink more. There will be winners that will never go as low again and that's what these dips are for - bargain hunting
Just a little bit more say 300 or so ??
Ftse will probably sink on Monday
Seems uncertain to an extent.
Markets appear confident but politicians not.
Looking at the pound, deal now looks likely.
British only stocks will gain but dollar earning ones will drop. Banks will gain a huge amount along with retailers.
I might buy more selected shares tomorrow.
CHEAP , i think we will get a last min deal we will get control of laws and boris will give a bit more on fishing. what do you think ? :-)
Will there be a deal?
I just don't think it's gonna happen but markets seem to retain some hope
the only thing that bothers me is the index is still quite high 1x£ = $1.3288 and still dropping still might drop to 1.3 $ cant see it dropping any lower at the moment as America is still in a mess :-)
Sorry Denby you're right that it could drop now and that's why I sold some to have cash ready.
It's looking like why buy now?
Looks like no deal this year.
Hope they just go WTO terms.
This is such a waste of time.
I've sold some shared this week to protect myself.
Was happy to sell at good profits due to recent rises
but I'm not too interested in being balls in now. Denny you're right in that it could get cheaper yet. Need cash later on.
The British pound lost about 0.5% on Thursday after British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen kicked the can down the road again.
Cheap just bare in mind what I said, I just hope Boris does not cave in to Europe.
You do gloomy you will never make a profit
how about this scenario.
WE will in the end get a deal with Europe
WHEN we do, the euro will strengthen pound down .013 and the dollar will slide,
profit taking in the states DOW and S&P sold off. markets crumble = chance to pick up shares dirt cheep :-)
That is a permanent risk esp with...Commodities at multi year highs, risk of miners trying to diversify, bank profits subdued due to low interest rates/provisions, brexit , usd potential decline, pharma euphoria subsides
I still think there is a bit more mileage to the rise....and cite consumer spending, lift in ind. production , dividend restarts, brexit/other country deals and low valuations compared with other markets as potential drivers. I am banking some profits but still looking for value purchases. I still think it's important to invest in other markets, I just think the ftse offers the best value for now.
AFTER the jump CUD do you not think it will CRASH
And the FTSE keeps rising!
Now the Pfizer vaccine is approved to use in the UK, first approval of the drug in the world. Excellent news. It's been good being invested, let's get a Brexit deal to see FTSE further jump
Yes I think moaners will be sad it rose so strongly in November. Leave them. They can only see the dark.
FTSE 100 set for best month in 31 years. Some shorters a bit sad about this here?
