well, its preparing to have a go at 166p. very encouraging as next stop is 177p but first things first....

its gone through 160p, lets see if it sticks

This is a small thing but it has had a good run from the lows of the last 5 days in the low 140's to where we are now, however it stalled a couple of times at 159.5p so a small target is 160p. Given that we are only a couple of trading sessions away it would be confirming of the upward run if it closes above 160p today. Although this might seem minor, its a 2% rise which is not so small. Its not a deal breaker chartwise either way, but it as I say it will keep the positivity running through to at least 166p I would have thought .(just my opinion)

2 things transformer, Brokers forecasts are not worth the ink in the pen they use. I'm not sure why you think the drop was overdone? It has gone back to its typical mid low 80's range. (It went up previously to test 100p because people were hoping for a better update.) It all, imo , now hinges around the level of the sale of KL. But when will that be? how much will that be? I don't know you and neither do you, which makes the statement "...worst is now definitely behind for Kier Group" difficult to justify. But as always, its all about opinions. GLA

165p was a support and when it went below. that 145p became a support (I keep topping up on these supports god help me), Anyway, although we visited 143p I got in at 148 when it looked to have refused to stay below 145p. What this all means is that 166p (give or take a penny or so), will now act as a resistance. My gut feel (fwiw!) is that 167p will go and 177p is the most like place for a level to fight it out on

My concern is that the £7b order book at 2.5% profit margin = £175m and that's not all coming in, in 1 year.....an RI looks inevitable and that's why it was mooted albeit as a potential exercise, in this update. I think its absolutely nailed on. Given Kier has a market cap of about £140m and a valuation of KL at £125m (which is optimistic right now) I think 1:1 is the minimum. Like I said I think its a bumpy ride ahead...

Dandy, I am glad you considered a RI, when do think it will happen and what ratio will it be (ie 1-1, 2-1 etc)?

Hans, this was not everything I was hoping for and the 10% fall suggests the market was not expecting it either. What do you think Kier means when it says, about reducing net debt:
"…... continuing the process to sell Living and a potential equity issue."
Construction companies unfortunately do go bust and normally it takes most by surprise. I happen to think they will steer there way through this but its not a done deal which is exactly why it has such a terrible valuation. It is still high risk and all this update did was confirm that. Debt increased, KL, no buyers in sight and Bk covenants waived! And so far no hint that the loans outstanding have been restructured to take account of the lower interest environment, which is not a surprise given their predicament.

Dandy, I have no idea how you can come to any of those conclusions. When has a RI even been mentioned before today let alone priced in? The debt has increased in 6 months by £100m! Bk Covenants have been waived because otherwise they would have been broken! This was not a great update. It was clearly just about ok, but It could have been better.

dandelion, the very worst scenario is it goes bust, the 2nd to worst scenario is a 1-1 RI. So, no, not every possible pessimistic scenario is priced in. both are very possible however, currently the market thinks it unlikely, but that can change. This is still a high risk stock

Hi C1, that was a bit patronising. I would suggest very few understand the science of what this company is trying to do.

The argument against mico managing the SP, is that at some stage most if not all, will sell their shares. If you are looking out maybe 2 years or so, then at that time you may very well be interested in the SP. This glib, "I don't look at the SP "is a "head in the sand" approach . None of us can say where this stock will be in say, 2 years. it all looks very promising now but what if a better therapy from another co. comes to market first, say in 12 months time? Then I bet you will be looking at the SP?
The problem for all gamblers (or investors whichever term you prefer), is that you don't know if any SP movement is based on noise or facts that you are not aware of yet. Which is why its tricky.

This will shake out a lot of holders that were gambling on better results. The RI will frighten many but here's the thing, Kier is on this very low rating on the assumption its going bust.
KL still for sale and a RI is coming. Resolve the debt, however its done, and then Kier should be up up and away.

Even it falls to 60p but sorts the debt out and gets revalued at PE of it peers then you are still looking north of 400p.

So it could be bumpy (or maybe all these calculation are in the price at 80-90p). I don't see how the SP can be raised much from here prior to a RI unless KL is sold first and according to the update, there was no imminent news of the sale.

The absolute saving grace for kier is the current environment of infrastructure spending. It should give lenders present and future, confidence that its a lower risk venture than otherwise would be the case.

100p may have to be shelved for a while...….

So basically Peter you have no idea what price or how long you will wait for the magic bullet to arrive? When will you know you were wrong? As for day trading, technically you close your position at the end of the day, however Playing unleveraged with £50k and making 2% a week is pretty straight forward. Most stock as move 1-5 percent a day let alone a week. Its not that hard.
