Sneaky rise and fall yesterday. Often a sign of manipulation... Now a big rise! Should be more to come. Don't know if someone was holding the price back by shorting to make the buyback work better. Anyway, glad I am massively overweight in this and hoping for further progress before xd in August, possibly with a little special div too.

Share buybacks - sadly - are more often used to avoid or reduce the dilution caused by greedy BoDs granting themselves huge numbers of shares and options by way of additional bonuses. So it may not be much of an advantage to shareholders... Just reduces the long term impact of giving shares to staff and directors. (Or from convertible bonds...)

Agreed, but Aviva went down similarly and there's a buyer sniffing around there... I'm sure this will rise before August as the next xd gets close... I'm overweight now on this one!

Suggest you guys read the news... New stress tests for insurers wrt climate impact and risk is weighing. Whole sector affected and all finance and banks and investors pretty much down today. I bought... Dividend not that far away and yield looks pretty healthy.

Sounds a bit optimistic to me. OP is good at present, but weak dollar rather reduces the impact. Q2 is impacted by penalty payments and the EU is hardly going to be gobbling oil until Covid levels lower. Seasonal energy usage reduction too so I don't expect Q2 to be other than reasonable. Q3 and Q4 offer some hope but plenty of possibilities to muck it up, from governments imposing extra taxes or levies to ensure energy companies clean up the old oil fields to various litigations round the world. Hoping to get to £15 by year end. Covid could still throw this to the bears...

Aa786uk. Of course equity raise via a placing or RI is a possibility, but rolling over debt is likely to be preferable if they can achieve it. Things that are preferable are more likely to be pursued.
A placing to raise some capital remains quite likely but would be preferable if the share price strengthens first for obvious reasons.

aa786 doesn't seem to understand the possible £100m is not in addition to the existing loan, it's to replace it. So net increase in debt hugely less. This is common practice but we seem to have commentators contributing who have no basic knowledge. Please ignore.

I don't think you understand what a buyback does. In theory it should give value back to shareholders albeit the market is often slow to take notice (and it hasn't happened yet anyway). The cash is already there so the asset value of the business is already reflecting the forthcoming action.

Me too. Sold a bundle I bought in low 60s, and bought some back again today. Sitting on a good slug and hoping for a chance to keep trading until the company is on steadier long term growth path...

Sorry. Daft comment. Company is in negotiations - no Directors allowed to buy or sell at present. He will be granted options and shares via bonus schemes as agreed by the company's remuneration committee...

As a multi national company there will be lots of ways of reducing the profit while benefiting from other goodies such as the super deduction.
