Hard to see the current Covid wave impacting CF badly. Yes, there will be staff sickness but January is hardly a disastrous time for that and stores will almost certainly stay open. Looking good for Valentine's, kids birthday cards, mother's day etc.

Hi Roxbury, I meant tip-off about the short. So a statement of fact rather than any suggestion of advice... Thanks anyway, bought another 10,000 shares today for a little less than I sold them for late yesterday. Still sitting on a big pile although I have taken a nice profit after buying a huge bundle while they were high 40s / low 50s and needed to slightly reduce my exposure. Happy New Year to all, and let's anticipate a wonderful CF New Year. (I think the Xmas cards in the January sale will work out cheaper for my biomass boiler than the logs so don't expect them to hang around for long!)

Thanks for the tip. I'll carry on buying in any dips. Lombard Odier will be on my Xmas card list next year. Guess where the cards will come from?

I'm still thoroughly enjoying selling a chunk after it rises and then buying most back for less after it falls. Confident it's on the way up so this just adds a little cream (and excitement) to the trifle.

Let's hope certain contributors are looking to find something new to do in 2022. There's glass half empty and then there's ridiculous. I'm betting on 70p a share by end January and 90p by summer. Covid unlikely to close things now, but SP above that requires dividends to be imminent, debt under control and signs of progress with some sort of expansion via partnerships or improved online. Or, of course, someone looking to snap up the business...

I think BillyBob has it spot on. It will be much easier to refinance the outstanding debt if January figures are good and more shop closures seem unlikely. Interest rates are rising but from very low levels and I can't see them getting to problem levels. Inflation will drop once energy prices come back to more sensible levels (this will wipe out inflation almost one its own). Of course, Putin might invade Ukraine and energy prices could easily go up further! But CF should still have a good year and SP should be back to 70p at least quite soon.

I think Lombard are banking on a Rights Issue which would bring the price down, or another twist of Covid. Either would reward them I guess. If not, they might also be part of a scheme to keep the price low as anither organisation builds up a position ahead of a bid. Time will tell. Whatever... CF looks like a good bet to us lot!

Cashed in a bit today. Plenty left so really hope Lombard forces the price back down so I can buy some more. For once I quite like the little shorting naughty fellas.

To be honest, I expect a few of us doing similar things just from a long position. I'm selling on the ups and buying one the downs. They partially closed towards the end of last week so seems they are happy with small profits and will recycle them as the good news / bad news story pans out. Which it might for a little time yet...

Enjoy the lack of stamp duty, buy on lows, sell in highs, and trade this share. That's my approach and only pile in when the price has plummeted. At least there's gold in them there hills.

Of course, RH. No problem. I was up to over 1,000,000 shares a couple times but my approach is to sell back 10% if holding on this share and either wait for the next six or buy something depressed. CEY has been rather wonderful as very oversold and up about 9% this week so it's been a great few days after a tricky couple of weeks. Good luck to you!

Sold about 10% of my holding at a nice little LIFO profit and will do precisely what you suggest if they try to sell it down again. If it goes up I'm happy. If it goes down I'm happy. If it stays the same I wait. Happy days!

Raise makes little sense - will simply impact businesses and households in debt even more. This will just increase inflation. I doubt Putin will pump more gas at a result!

Went to my local Card Factory yesterday. Clinton cards 4 doors down empty as usual. CF had about 7 customers and cheerful lass on the till and one other stocking shelves. Just bought some more this morning. Guessing the short is anticipating a Rights Issue mostly along with poor trading conditions from now until late January. Hoping that the Omicron illness levels are low with minimal hospitalisation and that this blows through over Xmas / New Year (which would be good for CF). I also expect interest rates to only very slowly rise. Let's face it, fuel, gas and electricity are the main inflation drivers along with supply chain issues and none of this will be impacted by interest rate rises. And fuel will start to come down, so likely will inflation!

Hope she's right on all this. She speaks well and sounds coherent but is under pressure to reduce the impact on SA so let's see. We'll know soon...
