RE: How much Ni does a Giga factory need?30 Jun 2021 10:20
Just to qualify the main reason I think Horizonte can't stay independent is the scale of resource. If we were small, or mid-size, maybe majors wouldn't be interested. But going on 4m tonnes proven, viable, lowest quartile etc - roughly a year of global supply at current levels. Surface mining, not the deep stuff. Amenable to different processes. Not going to happen. $25k/t is nailed on for nickel in the next few years (not just Woodmac but common sense tells you this - we're at $19k/t and there isn't even deficit yet). $100bn in the ground and nobody makes an offer? Nobody who can afford $1-2bn for the assets? It is simply impossible that we aren't taken out IMO. The longer we last, the bigger the reward, the board know it, we know it, but they have to progress the projects or we'll get bought at low % of asset value. We need a solid DFS (at least) on Vermelho and preferably Araguaia at or close to production. Buyout price is going to be very large here then.
Q3 starts tomorrow. Roll on and hold the line chaps and lasses, it's coming home! (I'm talking about Horizonte of course but after last night who knows maybe even the football is possible!)
