QVH : major digital milestone - TRIPS12 Sep 2025 09:28
QVH is a specialist burns hospital (among others).
There are five specialist burns hubs located in the South East.
They have had a referral system, a telemedicine referral system known as TRIPS.
The QVH Burns Unit is a key member of the South East Burns Network which covers Kent, Surrey, Sussex and parts of South London. It provides care for adults and children, depending on severity. There were over 29,000 referrals made in 2024 via the TRIPS website from over 500 site locations to the five hubs.
In June 25 QVH announced celebrating a major digital milestone with the successful upgrade of its TRIPS telemedicine referral system.
The system allows photographs of injuries to be reviewed by qualified and experienced clinicians, at any time of day or night, regardless of where in the South East region the patient is located.
Who can refer?
Accident and Emergency departments, Minor Injuries Units, Walk In-Centres, GP surgeries as well as Ambulance services can refer patients.
For example, paramedic practitioner teams from the South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) can send images and receive clinical advice from the scene of an incident and Primary care staff can also refer directly from the consulting room.
The hubs are located across London and south east of England in Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford; Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London; St Georges Hospital, Tooting; Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Aylesbury; and Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead.
TRIPS gives all these hubs sites the ability to securely accept referral images.
Paul Drake, Burns Consultant and TRIPS Senior Information Officer, said:
“This upgrade marks an exciting step forward in our digital transformation journey, it’s not just about new technology, it’s about making a real difference in how quickly and efficiently we can get the right care to the right patients, when they need it most.
The TRIPS upgrade ensures that the underlying technology is fit for the future and has been developed to address the needs of our users, namely enhanced search functionality and the ability to submit photographs via tablet devices”
