The Times: Shutting down the economy to fight coronavirus will cost Britain £2.4 billion a day for as long as it lasts and consumer confidence has crashed to its lowest level since the financial crisis. - then theirs the after math of unemployment, dept, house repossessions , homelessness, illness, bankruptcy etc that will follow......

If each adult and child received one self administering antigen tests a day, at a cost of £3.00 each - do it yourself saliva test to do when you brush your teeth.. That would cost approx £180 million per day ...The post office could deliver to households. which would allow those whom are negative to go to work, go out and spend money in shops , leisure etc etc and those whom test negative to go on furlough for two weeks on full pay...and it would still be cheaper and keep society open for business.

Just need the tests, and enough capacity to manufacture 60 million per day....

It seems that ODX are at full capacity manufacturing tests. Do you have any idea what tests, and for whom? Do we have a customer already?

I'm struggling with this sentence.....Which self administered tests are presently available that can presently give results within 30 mins, and do not require a health professional to be present to read the test.? Are they counting the person whom is being tested, whom is qa health professional as the person who reads the results for themselves. If this makes sense.

NHS staff in England who are not showing symptoms are to receive COVID-19 tests twice a week, the health service has confirmed.
Professor Stephen Powis, national medical director for NHS England, confirmed the health service will introduce testing for patient-facing employees twice weekly.
In a letter to Jeremy Hunt, chairman of the health and social care committee, Professor Powis said the tests will initially be given to 250,000 staff across 34 NHS trusts, with a full rollout expected by the end of next week.
Routine testing of NHS staff is already taking place in the hardest-hit areas.
Prof Powis wrote: "Following further scientific validation of the lateral flow testing modality last week, and confirmation over the weekend from Test and Trace that they can now supply the NHS with sufficient test kits, I am pleased to confirm asymptomatic testing of all patient-facing NHS staff.

"Lateral flow devices have a lower specificity and sensitivity than PCR tests.
"Testing twice weekly helps mitigate the sensitivity considerations, and to mitigate the lower specificity all positive results will be retested via PCR.
"As you know, this builds on the extensive asymptomatic staff testing already occurring in parts of the country with outbreaks - over 70,000 NHS staff have been tested asymptomatically in those areas in recent days.
"In addition, as previously notified, NHS trusts will continue to use their own PCR lab capacity for appropriate staff testing, and LAMP saliva testing is being made available to hospitals by Test and Trace in November and December."

Hopefully all MHRA clearance done and dusted before the Brexit transition period comes to an end on 31 December 2020.

One piece of the jigsaw that i do not understand ( there are other pieces) is if a self administered self test was rolled out for use at home, or anywhere for that matter......(regardless of whether it was a antigen or antibody test).....how would the government trace this information, record it, and use it to be able to use sanctions on people who ignore the results.

What would the communication between the administered self test and the government monitoring trace and test centre look like....it may be so, that you would not be allowed to use it on yourself, but only at certain points in town where the information form the test would be exported to the main government data base. If that's the case then the administering the test safely on ones self, becomes obsolete and it comes down to accuracy and speed - which makes it on par with other swab tests on the market at the moment .

In retrospect, going the way of antibody testing before antigen, looks like a expensive mistake,

May as well ignore all Antigen tests tenders for the time being until we have a test to sell.

So well over a million people living in nursing home environment in Germany x 20 tests a month = v. good regular income for a self administered antigen test! These tests would have to be taken at point of access to the home,and the results will be needed withing 20 minutes or so.
