Thanks . The numbers are quite eye watering. What new investors such as myself could well do with a is a simple bullet proof plan of the steps ( that are out of ODX control) that need to happen between now and the point when your / 0dX projections become a possibility. What are the barriers that need taking down......be v. Useful. Thanks in advance . Vas.

The term, something along the lines of "new type tests " appears often in reports, but i don't know what they mean by this.....maybe non swab.

The documentation attached to the lateral flow test from Innova Tried and Tested – the company supplying 20 million tests in Liverpool – claims it has an average sensitivity rating ranging between 88.75% and 99.17%.

But the lack of steps taken to amplify the viral load – a key advantage of RT-PCR – means that sensitivity could be even lower depending on factors like how long somebody has been infected by SARS-CoV-2.
The test given in Liverpool will be based on a nose or throat swab, similarly to the commonly-used RT-PCR test that’s seen as the gold standard for its accuracy.

The difference with the lateral flow test, as noted by Toumazou, is that it can be much less accurate than RT-PCR.

“The closer you are to breaking the conflict between speed and accuracy the better, and unfortunately with some of these new technologies, that trade off will be there,” he says.

The BBC state "Approx.. 500,000 people are being invited to take part in regulatory testing in Liverpool, regardless of whether they have symptoms, with follow-up tests approximately every two weeks"......that's just one city.

Also, i noticed that Lord Bethell's comment below demonstrate a very strong sense of certainty ....which makes a change for a politician. I would have expected a "may" or " could" , and not the absolute certainty that a " Will provide critical......

How often are they offering the test to the people of Liverpool in the pilot? I guess that's all we have to go on at the moment. Once they ease lockdown more tests will be required I also guess.

That looks like the earlierest tender as it for £8 million. Well done. Good posts. Events are moving fast.....immense pressure on goverment to show a way out of the cycle of opening vs lockdown of society. Lets hope they do the right thing...

Just below the two tenders for £550 m there is another tender where a Contract Award Notice has been given to "Amazon Services Europe S.à r.l. - Amazon Services Europe Business Solutions Agreement. Only published on the 6th November but looks like the tender has expired its 5 month duration as deadline and delivery started on 26 Mar 2020 to 25 Sep 2020.

Therefore the idea of distribution via Amazon has been around for sometime - plenty of time for a deal to have been worked out - so all we need to know now is who will manufacture these 200,000 units per day.

So surely a partnership would need to be made here, one to manufacture the tests, the other distributing the tests.

kevin, i do not have a clue how it will work but this covid passport business that gets talked about is suppose to give every person who tests negative that mrining say, free access to community activities for 12 hours or something.....if negative then quarantine BUT, i just cant see how this information will be captured, and reinforced if people are taking the tests in their own home, by themselves....how do you stop a person who wants to go to the footy, and who knows they have symptoms from getting their mate to do the passport test for that day. I guess their will temperature tests at main events.

My thinking is that "our " fast turn around, 15 minute results test will be used initially on front lines staff, schools, students , airports etc etc, and be q administered by a trained person. The important part is that it can give a result withing 10 - 15 mins and accurate. The result and personal info of each patient will be submitted by the person who administers the kit.
Anyone found positive will be sent home to quarantine .
By the time that the entire population is being tested, then these tests will be freely available and be linked to some kind of electronic passport, which will capture the result, and personal details and store on test and trace , or its equivalent as a daily passport allowing access to community events and work , travel etc.

If that fails, by this time a third of the population will be unemployed and will be re employed as covid testers !!

Hard to believe they will put out a massive tender for a home testing solution that is presently not allowed in the UK.
Shame, as i want this to happen as much as the next person.

Testing at home is not a problem....its how the results are managed IMO. My understating is that there are two ways of dealing with the results.......presently the test is posted to someones home, they compete the test, and post it back to the laboratory for the results which are text back to person 24/ 48 hours later . The result and the outcome of persons results and ID etc is captured and put on the test and trace data base, actioning any further quarantine, etc etc.
The alternative that is presently not allowed by the MHRA is the test is posted to the patient at home, they test themselves and get results 15 minutes later....im not sure how this per results will be are reliably captured and recorded by test and trace....Im also unsure which of these two methods these contracts are aimed at. but one of them is not allowed at present !

Please correct me if i have this wrong.

Anyone hear Boris talking on SKY about how that during the following month of lockdown, we need to get the R number down, expand the city testing plan and expand form Liverpool to other areas......and during this time the UK manufactures of covid tests, incl. RFT in Uk will be building up their capacity for mass testing across the country.... ..timelines seems to be converging to Christmas /New Year period for the big push. ...

As far as is strictly necessary: the lateral flow tests were identified as strictly necessary to meet the demand to scale up the UK’s mass testing programme.

B. There are genuine reasons for extreme urgency: the global demand for rapid antigen detection tests based on lateral flow technology (lateral flow devices, LFD) has recently significantly increased. The availability of products has reduced with potential stock now subject to rapid purchase deadlines. Also, two major announcements have further increased global interest and focus on these tests. On September 28, WHO announced its partnership to procure 120M LFD, mainly for low and middle-income countries and President Trump announced the distribution of 150M LFDs in the US.

C. Constrained supply of validated products. This increase in demand is set against constrained supply. Some raw materials required to manufacture LFD are only globally available in a limited number and can suffer supply chain disruptions. While many potential LFD suppliers exist, PHE Porton Down validation has, over recent weeks, revealed that many of these suppliers do not have viable products. There are currently only a very small number of global developers of validated products. Many of these are small companies which are currently scaling manufacture.

D. The events that have led to the need for extreme urgency were unforeseeable: the timing of availability of new Covid-19 Lateral Flow Test technology meeting the relevant UK technical requirements coupled with high international demand and limited global capacity was not foreseeable.
Abbott are providing lateral flow test kits to support the UK Covid-19 testing strategy and to enable mass testing for C-19 through rapid testing and to supplement diagnostics capacity.

i think he means the following....
I never really considered that a substantial amount of triage following the result from someones LFT test, is required. They will need to be identified as a person living locally, outcome of result - positive or negative, contact details taken for follow up testing. People who get their results straight away will be instantly offered the support they need on how to self isolate for example how to access food, access shopping, medication, if the self isolating effects their earnings - they will be advised on benefits to claim, Anyone on low income who was instructed to self-isolate should be able to claim a £500 payment from their local authority. Plus the reading of their rights, and the fines if they break quarantine etc .

Its the full package, so to ensure that each person has the best chance possible of keeping to their quarantine period , with out further infecting others.

Therefore, it does makes sense to have results declared when a actual covid worker is present, even if it does only take 15 minutes.
