Amazon have been pivotal to Ocado's success. Prior to their purchase of wholefoods Amazon were moving into online groceries, Amazon Pantry etc but didn't represent too much of a threat. The June 2017 purchase of Whole foods changed everything. Amazon admitted that they were intent on becoming the biggest and dominant e-commerce grocery provider in all corners of the globe. They bought wholefoods primarily to understand the grocery business further.

That was a huge wake-up call to the world's grocers. Many realised that their online cobbled together solutions would not be fit enough to compete in the new era of grocery e-commerce. They faced losing huge market share over time to fitter online grocers. Many looked around for another company who had best in class, proven, profitable, online grocery solutions. Ocado's first overseas contract was signed in Nov 2017. Since that point Ocado has picked up a string of multi billion dollar grocers as partners, Casino groupe, Sobeys, Kroger, Coles, Aeon, ICA, groupe Auchan.

Amazon have moved into shops as they have pioneering grab and go technology and it works incredibly well. It gives it a huge advantage over the competition.

Of course though you only come out of your shell to have a go at Ocado when there's a small fire. When the share has been riding high you've been missing..

"This has been happening repeatedly" 2 fires involving robots in 2 years. One a very small fire effecting 1% of the Erith CFC. Parts of Erith were back in operation a few days later.

Many, many very large worldwide grocers have seen Ocado's systems, carried out extensive due diligence on them and signed up after a fire destroyed the Andover CFC. Current share price is rising, many more contracts future contracts are expected and priced into the share currently.

I believe Ocado will be less prone to staff abscences as their distribution centres are heavily automated.

Key point to remember is that Ocado retail UKs operations only comprise 15% or so of Ocado groups market value. The other 85% of the groups market value is derived from the Ocado Solutions arm. The solutions side sells the Ocado online grocery software to other grocers around the world.

The bigger the worldwide online grocery market gets, the more demand there will be for Ocado's solutions in the future. This delta covid wave looks to be opening up a big new phase of the pandemic that will drive worldwide online grocery demand higher.

As you see in all Ocado's promotional CFC videos the robots within them pass incredibly close to each other billions of times.

"They travel quickly - up to 4m per second (8.9 mph) - and can pass within 5mm (0.2in) of each other." From a BBC article on Ocado's robots

So if the robots collide it's down to the tech controlling them. That tech is elaborately written to maximise productivity avoiding collision.

If a robot spontaneously caught fire then that would indicate a robot issue rather than a software one. Updating the software should be cheaper than updating all the robots.

Fair point. The Andover fire issues were addressed by Ocado. What has caused the latest issue is anyone's guess. Faulty battery? fault in the grid? Fault elsewhere in the robot? The robots at Erith I do not believe are the latest version? Possibly the issue doesn't occur in the new model?

Many possibilities, we won't know until the press release /RNS outlines the findings in detail

Personally I believe Ocado will evolve the tech stronger as a result of this incident. Any company operating tech with the level of complexity has would have issues. It's how they are dealt with that's key.

The great majority of directors didn't sell in the £20's. Many purchases from them lately. They believe in Ocado's future. Crucially also the big shareholders, Amsterdam Trust and Jorn Rausing who together control 25% of Ocado, didn't sell. They have acquired more lately.

There's a bedrock of support for Ocado from it's management and key shareholders. They believe the share will rise again well into the £20's.

It's for us all to individually research and see if we agree /disagree with them. Personally I agree with their vision.

Yes, to be fair though the lack of slots may well be due to slightly less capacity due to the fire and rescheduling existing orders. As delta cases ramp up further, more will self isolate and many will avoid shops. I expect basket sizes and orders will grow

They can't control the share price. Their job is to build the business sustainably and logically. They've done that year on year as Rocka999 has pointed out.
