Democracy….
“ [Today 11:21] (Alliance News) - The UK government could be considering major tax cuts in a bid to win over traditional Tory voters after the two by-election defeats this week……”
That’ll fix it!
Well therein lie some of the inherent problems with democracy. Fiscal control is used for votes not long term investment. Another example at the moment is in the US with the budget and house speaker votes making a laughing stock of the democratic process.
Then there is the TikTok culture of our youth today as they wanna be instant millionaires. They carelessly reveal their details and psychology to China making themselves more vulnerable to big data manipulation in exchange for ‘likes’.
Democracy is under attack from insidious outside forces, apathy within and the incompetence of our leaders across the globe who seem to be ever more corrupt rather than establishing themselves as role models with good honest behaviours.
Those who enjoy democratic freedoms don’t seem to respect that it comes with a price, taking advantage of its liberties in a me now culture.
As you see the likes of Brazil, Argentina and now many African States aligning themselves with China who always seem to play the long game albeit often ‘at any cost’.
Then the divisions from within Europe fisher as the left and right argue acrimoniously over Middle Eastern and Russian policies. Now exacerbated across the west by our failed immigration policies.
I wonder how long it, democracy, will last.
There could well be a point when a more authoritative response is necessary. Just like we are starting to see in France now. That usually accelerates a downfall as then it can be too late.
Only ourselves to blame and those of all political parties that have virtually zero genuine respect for democracy.
The behavioural evidence and policies show ironically that they just look upon their jobs as being about getting rich and more powerful now with further disregard for the real longer term challenges our society face.
A manifesto built on upholding democratic values, honesty and respect would be a revelation and those values should be subscribed to by all.
But that would just set the next lot up for a fall as each would fail just as the previous incumbents!
A time for change, which ostensibly means we carry on as before looking over our shoulders but with our eyes still closed!
When in Rome has become ‘anything goes!’
And at this rate so will our freedoms!
Usual caveats
