RE: Sensitivity24 Nov 2020 21:03
PL75, Deeks Twitter is interesting....
If Avacta meet the MHRA Desired Criterion, I argue you do not need the complementary PCR!
However, for me, the whole aim for mass testing was as per the Harvard discussion
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=h7Sv_pS8MgQhttps://m.youtube.com/watch?v=h7Sv_pS8MgQ
and 'Test sensitivity is secondary to frequency and turnaround time for COVID-19 surveillance.'
https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.06.22.20136309v3
It states that sensitivity of 50% is needed for mass testing! SPEED is the key, not sensitivity!!
Seems to me, there is no joined up thinking of what is required from the various test assays.
What Deeks is after is a faster test than PCR but equally as good as PCR.
As he is adviser to Govt, who am I to argue??
But no antigen test meets MHRA Guidelines Desired Criterion!
Perhaps until NOW!!
As I posted earlier, Sir Al must have set expectations. You sense that in Grant Shapps response to new LFT coming in January.
If Sir Al has an LFT that meets MHRA Guidelines Desired Criterion, he has the best of all worlds! That's why its the Holy Grail! Its the ultimate test. Its fast, sensitive and specific!!
From Boris yesterday the LFTs are filling a massive task! Boris therefore wants the best test!
If you tender and a lesser test may be used, would you be happy? Absolutely not!
If Sir Al has capacity to produce LFT at scale, then imagine for a moment ... could the full £912M tender be coming in Sir Al's direction???
Privided capacity is available, I would conclude the answer could be a definite YES!!!
Why would they want a lesser test with all the uncertainty that Deeks echoes out??
If I was Sir Al, I would engage Deeks ASAP!
I have said it 4 times tonight, What a difference a day makes!!
Test, test, test
