His name is Simon William Holden and he has M & A legal experience.

Just seen a piece in the Spectator referencing the New England Journal of Medicine research on the AZ jab and the South African variant.

The headline of only 21% efficacy in preventing infections in the South African trial looks worrying, but as the piece says "what we don’t know is how effective the AstraZeneca vaccine is at preventing serious cases of Covid-19. None of the 42 cases of Covid-19 in the South African study required hospitalisation. That is not altogether surprising, given that the participants were all aged under 65 and had a median age of 30. If the vaccine prevents serious illness from the South African variant – and it has already proved itself very good at preventing serious cases of disease in other countries where the South African variant is less prevalent – it would still be doing an extremely valuable job."

Kenneth, good luck to your parents. If they look as if they need to go to hospital and you have a choice, check with Clinigen which hospitals in your area have pharmacies with Clinigen agreements. St Thomas's in London did not - so no one there had SNG001 via MAP.

I found it was like living through a Kafka story trying to get MAP.

I tried to get SNG001 on MAP for my brother who was in St Thomas's Hospital.

You need a GP or a consultant to prescribe under MAP. I spoke to Clinigen. While they could not suggest a consultant, they did tell me that St Thomas pharmacy did not have an account with them - so no one there had prescribed SNG001 under MAP.
So I was going to need to persuade a consultant, get the pharmacy to set up an account with Clinigen. By that point my brother was recovering.

So if you want to try MAP, check with Clinigen. But the trial would be easier if it's at the relevant hospital.

First of all we have to have a test that works.

But I am wondering if Avacta could make Affimer designed to bind to, say, some of the protein in the Brazilain variant. So the test could show not only whether the patient has Covid. But also which variant. Clearly would be very valuable.

If P3 works, what could be our products? In particular, to provide coverage if a vaccine resilient variant emerges while the vaccine is redesigned and re administered.

I go back to the Fauchi piece.

There are some late stage drugs (eg dexamethasone), already approved. But it would be better to catch the disease earlier. It would seem that the Immune-modulating drugs have a similar problem – they are focused on late state.

There are the antiviral antibodies. But will these work with a variant? Could one of the bio people on this board give a view.

So, are we just left with anti-virals: MK-4482; SNG001; and camostat mesylate.

Is that the field? What do we know of MK-4482 and camostat mesylate?

Last week I tried to get SNG001 for my brother who had been admitted to St Thomas. I spoke to Clinigen and it seemed that St Thomas's hospital does not have an account with them - so they have never supplied anyone at St. Thomas. I started to work out how to educate his Consultant on SNG using the Lancet piece but by then he had fortunately recovered.

Has anyone had better success? I have now started to work out a path (Consultant/hospital) to get MAP SNG001 should any of my friends/family need it. It seems going to one of the pilot hospitals at least mean the some of the Consultants have heard of the product. But getting to Southampton seems the best path!

On the same theme, I would love to understand whether anyone has paid for SNG001 under MAP. I might need it for a family member.

I understand that part of the challenge is to find a doctor who can prescribe. Has anyone found a good route on this? eg one of the 24hour private doctors.
