You are right. The reason that we, private investors, would make a better job of timing the buybacks is that it would be OUR money we’d be spending. When THEY spend OUR money they don’t care whether it’s good value or not.

You did well but if the company was in better shape you’d probably be holding, waiting for 478p.

As it is, you might get a chance to re-enter next Tuesday and make another £500!

It says something about us that we can be up more than 5% at 10am ish only to see the whole day gain fizzle away by six hours later. People cannot believe their luck to make a 20p a share gain and bail out, taking their profit. THAT is the extent of confidence in the company.

That said, I’m still in and hoping that next weeks (probably dismal) results are already priced in.

I’m still waiting for Barclay’s target of £10 to materialise.

She has been getting a bit of stick on this board recently.

The idea seems to be that she is too woke to be any good. The success of Aviva SEEMS to tell a different story.

Is it her lack of experience in the energy sector that is the issue?

Has she just been lucky at Aviva and they would have done well even with a Looney type figure in charge?

I’m in big in BP AND Aviva so my financial destiny is very much in her hands!

Your prediction of up8% less the 23p divi was exactly what I was expecting. Instead we got a much more modest 4% in line with the FTSE less the 23p divi drop.

Interesting to see whether he sticks with the 90 day pause or just reimposes his tariffs sooner just to add impetus to negotiations. Thats the kind of thing we could expect from him

Yeah you lose the divi but the SP quite often drops by a good bit more than the amount of the divi on xd day so it’s often worth it. Not always, of course. Always a risk.

It’s the new ISA year so a lot of people have £20,000 lined up to invest and now is a great time to get in. (Maybe!)

Kicking myself as I intended a top up tomorrow when we go xd. Now I’ll be sitting on the button at 8 am trying to get in before the anticipated massive rise.

Anyway, Donald’s pals will have done well out of this. I imagine he dropped more than hints to them to sell on Wednesday and buy today.

I spoke too soon! Your gain has all gone again. Never mind. You’ve got the divi and, after the divi drop tomorrow, I’m confident of recovery when the dust settles. A divi of 36p+ a year has got to merit an SP of well over a fiver.

I’ve bet half my ISA allowance on a recovery. This has got to be worth £4.00+ when the dust settles and a lot more when other matters get resolved. Think where we could be with a new CEO and something back from Rosneft!

I’m trying to reassure myself that unlike GOM and unlike Covid this is an entirely man-made crisis and, as such, can be remedied. We had the Truss fiasco less than three years ago and that was a nine days wonder. Trump is a lot of things and pragmatic is one of the things he is. Once he’s made his point I can see a u-turn in the offing. Its possible that he has changed things for ever but I doubt it.

It would be nice to get in at the bottom but, realistically, if we’re not up at least 30p within a few months I’d be very surprised.

I’m still holding on to my £20,000 cash in this year’s S&S ISA. I had planned to buy at 8am but it’s still a falling knife.

What’s the problem with Amanda Blanc being involved in picking the new chairman? I thought she was generally considered a good egg. Aviva has soared under her leadership. Genuine question.

You are right that we are going to suffer as long as Auchincloss and crew remain in charge. The only question is when they are to go. It isn’t an “IF” it’s a “WHEN”.

Moy points out that we are down 140p since last April. The last 30p is down to Trump’s actions today. That effect will hopefully be short-lived. The BoD are responsible for the other 110p and their days are numbered.
