European Council Adopts Regulation for Safety and NTSB Recommends DMS for Self-Driving Cars on Public Roads
As an extension of the EU "Europe on the Move", the European Council recently announced that it has adopted a regulation on the general safety of motor vehicles and the protection of vehicle occupants and vulnerable road users. The latest mandate will promote the inclusion of driver distraction, drowsiness and attention warning systems. This move is a great sign for DMS solutions and Seeing Machines CEO Paul McGlone shared his reaction in a news release.
Further to this, in the US, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has released an initial report following an investigation into a fatal accident involving an Uber self driving vehicle and a pedestrian, which recommends 'adequate monitoring of vehicle operator engagement, if applicable' for all testing autonomous vehicles on public roads.
