Finally home in Europe again, with the stubborn cold I got just before the new year.
Fun times though, getting to discuss singing, stage and voice stuff at CES. We had professional presenters, so I "only" talked about 5 min on average to each group. Now, to heal my voice...

Unfortunately, I can only make sense of some of them! JC does the hard work. Id hate to imagine how much coffee is required to stay awake while filtering then all - these are just the edited highlights.

Perhaps if this all goes south, we can start a business translating patents from "English" to English. Seriously, like Schlem with his L2 updates (thanks again) I am trying to help, if you need more detail or if I am just restating the obvious let me know.

Ha ha, does one to the left eye and the other does the right?

OptaAlert seem to be primarily a health science company, they started with eye tracking glasses. Perhaps they were required to bring in some additional expertise to Smart Eye, or did they hold a necessary part of the IP since we know that the Swedes' don't have many patents?

So if it spots a passenger who is getting hot and clammy, it will drive slow and even to prevent travel sickness? If the occupants are sleepy it will again drive more smoothly. If they are excited it will crank up the acceleration and lateral g-forces on corners.

Good to see that Harman has appeared in your searches and not just associated with their core of audio.

When PM said that R&D was decreasing we were seeing the opposite. But now it is becoming clear. The move to IP revenue means that we may double investment on Research , but now we do far less Development as that is now done by our licensees.

I suppose the big question is how much is up front payment and how much happens later when products get sold?

I was hoping to find a video of Mike Lenne's presentation, but don't think they are publishing them yet.

Here is what I have found
- BMW names sound terrible!! "BMW i Interaction EASE" is the name for their concept (not "car" more "architecture" )

Here is the press conference that launches it, got a big input from Samsung who design all of BMW's recent headers (the displays in c0ckpits) they now own Harman, - big car electronics provider (which platform/chipset to they use???)

the designer/architect talks a lot of guff, but he mentions the gaze tracking for browsing and also the AR which would need head and eye tracking. Although in the demo there is only ever one occupant - hhmmm - one way to avoid parallax issues have only the one passenger.

As Paul as being saying it is all about the IP, but if BMW and Qualcomm are happy to use our name, then we could be the brand. You don't buy a mobile phone from ARM, or buy a device "with ARM inside" on the sticker, but will end users appreciate having "Seeing Machines on board" I think that is possible, it could be like "Dolby" in the 80's many people didn't understand it, but they would pay £10 more for a tape player or Video player with it. In a few years time, we will could be milking everyone.

- it won't cover their entire range yet - understandable as not mandatory in all areas and cost is still a factor.
- it is running on shared Qualcomm hardware where it co-exists and can work with other optional functionality
- this is premium, but money is still important (JLR?)
- infotainment is a big one for me, this is less critical from ASIL point of view and possible means not integrated with ECU, auto gear box etc - is that because it is a late addition, or because they have multiple suppliers at that end and want to keep it separate? Or is it part of Qualcomm's land grab and they don't have skills there yet?
